About this project

Welcome to the “Tanks in Manchuria (1932-45) in 28mm by Trenchworx” Kickstarter Project!

In 2014, Trenchworx successfully completed our first Kickstarter Project, Tanks of WWI, which raised more than $20,000 and supplied nearly 1,000 highly detailed resin models to 170 backers around the globe. With our new project, Tanks in Manchuria (1932-45), we are looking to expand our existing range of Japanese and Soviet vehicles used prior to and during World War Two in the border conflicts around Manchuria from 1932-1945.

Why the Manchurian Conflict?

A few models from this time period have been available on our website as 3D prints for the past several years. Our Japanese Type 92 Armored Car has been a hot seller since before we had a website. The goal of this Kickstarter project is to convert these existing models, as well as new designs, into resin models for mass production.

What will you get?

If funded, we will begin by offering four tanks used in Manchuria throughout the 1930s, with two tanks from each side of the conflict. As funding progresses and Stretch Goals are met, the scope of models available will increase, allowing even more options for each pledge. Of course, we have some great freebies planned for you as well, so check out the Stretch Goal rewards below.

Pledge Levels

For this project, we’ve decided to keep pledge levels simple by offering a pledge by quantity system that allows you to pledge for the number of tanks that you want—all at the same price. The individual price per model will decrease as the quantity you order increases, so higher pledge amounts will get you more for your buck. This system alleviates the need for “add on” pledges unless you want 11-19 or 21+ models (in which case we are more than happy to accommodate).



Stretch Goals & Bonuses

Each Stretch Goal achieved will either unlock a new vehicle design to choose from or a bonus perk. To make things simple (see a trend here?), we've decided that the level at which you pledge will determine the quantity of free rewards you receive.

1-2 tanks – Coasters Only.
3-9 tanks – 1x of each Stretch Goal Bonus
10-19 tanks – 2x of each Stretch Goal Bonus
20+ tanks – 3x of each Stretch Goal Bonus

Packaging

To save space and cost (so we can offer these tanks at such a great price), all models will be individually wrapped and packed in bulk with all the necessary parts and instructions. No fancy packaging, just great value.

Shipping

All orders inside the United States will be shipped at no additional charge.

We wish we could send international orders for free but unfortunately, international shipping from the United States gets very expensive and we don't want to risk it ruining the success of our project. We've devised a simple way to handle the problem that we feel is fair to all backers.

International Shipments start at $11 for the first tank and increase $1 for every additional tank to a maximum of $20 shipping. No international pledge level will exceed $20 for shipping. International customers will also be responsible for all customs, taxes, and VAT fees that may be added to their shipment.

2 Tanks = $12
3 Tanks = $13
and so forth up to 9 Tanks = $19
10 or more tanks = $20
Scale

These models are designed as 28mm (1/56 scale) miniatures commonly used in tabletop war games.

First Day

We are one day into our funding period and we’ve blown through the first four Stretch Goals. Those collecting Japanese tanks will be excited as this adds two more designs to choose from for their rewards.

The Japanese Type 79 Ko-Gata is the first Stretch Goal achieved. This FT-17 sporting Japanese made guns will have both Machine-gun and 37mm cannon included so you can arm your tank for multiple roles on the battlefield.



With the second Stretch Goal unlocked, we will be casting small parts in metal. This is an exciting new prospect for us and something we look forward to learning more about for future projects as well.

The Type 89 Yi-Go is the third Stretch Goal achieved. It should provide excellent infantry support with its 57mm cannon and two machine-guns. I am personally excited about this one because I love designing weird looking tanks, especially when they have lots of rivets.



And finally… Coasters! I tend to keep a drink nearby when I’m gaming and what better way to keep your game table clean than with coasters? I just finished up the designs for them this morning so here’s a first look. They could change a bit between now and printing so if you have any feedback please let us know.



Now… off to finish up the objective marker and damage tracker designs.

Going into the weekend, it looks like we could hit our fifth Stretch Goal. When we do, a set of Objective Markers will be included with your rewards. Preliminary designs have been made featuring Soviet and Japanese flags, raised on a 60mm base. The base can be textured and painted to match your table top or army and the details on the flags have been embossed for ease of painting.



As I was writing this update, the first prototypes came off our printer. They have been spray painted to show the detail a bit better. We have the ability to change the designs before we go into production, so if you have any feedback, we welcome your input.

I just wanted to throw out a quick update today to show where we're at with the Chi-Ha design. There is still a lot to do but I'm hoping to have it finished by the end of the week or early next week so we can get our first test print made.



I'll be doing an update later this week with more pictures of the resin models and I'll throw in another progress update for the Chi-Ha so you can see how it's coming along.

Another quick update on the Chi-Ha progress. The main body is finished and so is the turret with the exception of the radio antenna. All that's left after that is some detailing on the fenders, the tracks and wheels. It should be ready for prototyping early to mid next week.

I will start this update with an apology for spamming your inbox this morning. I mentioned earlier this week that I would post more photo's of the initial models on offer. I've decided to post them in separate updates, hence the slight barrage today. I was hoping to get some more paint on the models before showing them off but it's been a busy week so that didn't happen.

The T-26 is first on the list. This model was our first resin test cast and despite a few minor problems with it (which have been corrected), it will give you a sense of the quality you can expect from this project.

I should note that the turret hatches, gun barrel, and rear exhaust bits are 3D printed pieces since we haven't started the spin casting process yet.

Molds for the Type 92 are still being worked on so we don't have a resin model to show off yet. This model is our 3D printed prototype. The resin model will be much cleaner.

As with the T-26, the turret hatches and gun barrel on this model are 3D printed. We will update later with our progress on the metal parts.

Final Hours, Big Update!

We have some good news today for backers collecting Soviet tanks. The T-34 which was planned to unlock at $20k will be available to all backers at the end of the funding period!


We began production on the T-34 model prior to the start of this Kickstarter project and progress on the molds are coming along quicker than expected. This morning, I received the first test cast of the hull and tracks, and they’re looking pretty solid. Only one slight problem has been identified and it should be cleared up shortly. One master model for the turret just came off the printer so we should have that mold ready soon.

The damage tracker design has also been finalized. We decided to integrate an earlier dice holder design from our Tanks of WWI project into the damage tracker. For those of you using popular World War II rules sets this will allow you to track damage to a unit/vehicle as well as give you a nice slot for your order dice. The tracker is 40mm wide and has nine slots that hold 1/8” rods to mark damage.
