So I'm getting ready for a small-ish tournament in July this year, and I want to build a new army for it. The tournament is somewhere between competitive and beer-and-pretzels, and uses a funky force org chart. Basically it comes down to one choice from each force org slot; HQ, Troops, Elites, FA, HS. I've got to fill out one and only one unit for each force org slot, and I want to avoid multiples of any units (like dedicated transports, for example).

Now, the tourny is called Kill! Maim! Burn!, and I got the idea that Blood for the Blood God was a good idea. Problem is, I'm stuck on what list to take, what units are worth it, etc. and so here I am.

I've got two general lists:

List One:
Spoiler:

Herald: The Blade of Endless Bloodshed; Greater Locus of Fury 110

16 Bloodletters: Bloodreaper; banner of blood 185

3 Bloodcrushers 135

Heldrake 170

Helbrute: reaper autocannon; power fist (heavy flamer) 120

720 points

List Two:
Spoiler:

Chaos Lord: The Blood-forged Armour; bolt pistol; Axe of Khorne; Juggernaut of Khorne 200

7 Chaos Space Marines: + 1 Aspiring Champion (bolt pistol; Axe of Khorne) 160

3 Bloodcrushers 135

4 Chaos Bikers: 2× meltagun; + 1 Chaos Biker Champion 140

Helbrute: reaper autocannon; power scourge 115

750 points

At the end of the day, I want to try and find the mid-way point between a strong list that will be able to pack a serious punch, and something that is fluffy and cool. Thoughts?

Are you particularly set on the hellbrute and bloodcrushers then? they aren't very competitive units.

of the two, I think i prefer the first, but would have the banner on the crushers, and DS the letters in.

I'm not really set on anything in particular. I just really don't want to paint up a Defiler or a Soul Grinder. Or Berzerkers, I really don't like the models.

I do like the multiples of 8, and I'd prefer not to have a Thirster or DP as HQ, because I figure that I'll just end up summoning one if I want to.

Well summoning bloodthirsters isnt THAT easy, you might easilly want to use those bloodtithe points to buff your army instead of trying tosave them up for a bloodthirster summon

I could recommend fleshhounds over bloodcrushers

Heres a list possibility

100 Herald on juggernaught
85 8x Bloodletter / Reaper upgrade
85 8x Bloodletter / Reaper upgrade
160 10x Fleshhounds
144 9x Fleshhounds
170 1x Heldrake

Its fast and hits hard. Herald joins a fleshound team, i would recomend to reconsider the soulgrinder, with a forgefiend head he looks awesome and its a really powerfull beastie.

If I were going to use a standard force org chart, then I'd certainly consider that list, but as I mentioned, for this tourney I need to use one and only one of each force org slot: 1 HQ, 1 Troops, 1 Elites, 1 FA, 1 HS.

I've had a bit of a think, and I'm thinking this may be the way to go:

Herald w/Blade of Endless Bloodshed
16x Bloodletters
5x Chaos Terminators (2x PF, 2x PW, Twin Lightning Claws. HF)
4 Chaos Bikers (2x Meltaguns, IoW)
Maulerfiend w/Lasher Tendrils

The idea being that the Herald goes with the Bloodletters, and along with the Terminators are held in DS and make use of the IoW on the bikers to DS much closer than they'd get if they footslogged. Maulerfiend is there because he's fast.

Oops, I guess I glazed over that part of your post.

I have a tendancy towards not taking terminators, I feel like some people wll have some plasma weapons or something else that will make mincemeat out of them and they are so expensive its a hard blow to take.

I might recommend giving your herald a juggernaught and making him ride with the bikes, it would make that unit much tougher and you warlord much more maneuverable.

removing a few bloodletters would allow this and maybe even removing the lasher tendril on the maulerfiend which i find aren`t worth 10 extra point for what it makes you lose.

btw IoW doesnt help deepstriking, thats the instument of chaos which only deamons have
