So, how do you prefer to take in tactica articles? I have a fairly strong opinion on this, but I was curious as to what other thought. Now, I don't mean battle reports, to clarify. We're talking about tactical guides. Either strategy guides to discuss specific ways to maneuver on the battlefield, more general unit guides, or a 'vs' presentation to discuss how to combat specific enemies.

Written, preferably with pictures. No videos or talking, I'd much rather read something at my own pace without someone "uhming", "ahhhhing" or smacking their gobs all the time.

I was about to start a new thread on this before remembering I'd already done one.

It seems like all anyone wants to do anymore is just YouTube vids. I haven't found a competent written breakdown for DE yet. Is the video thing a growing deal, or am I just noticing it more? I've seen three new tactical videos in the last week alone.

I don't use them much,

but when I do I want words, lots of words and some tactical diagrams or photos

vidoes just don't work partly because you're conditioned to watch the minis being moved about rather than listening to the talk, and partly because videos tend to also include

music (to make it harder to hear)

and

people leaning over the table, messing about with the focus on the cameras etc (to make it hard to see)

Videos are minimum effort. You can just plonk a sod in front of the camera and have him waffle for twenty minutes about his opinion on X, Y or Z with plenty of pointless digression in between on top of the other stuff I already mentioned.

Plus, who knows, maybe this waffle iron will be the next one to roll in all that YouTube ad money..

Written articles are the best, but they take the most time and effort to create by far. It's really easy to sit in front of a camera, even a cell phone camera, and talk about stuff even off the top of your head.

Definitely written article with pictures.

Videos are a horrible format for most of the hobby-related stuff they are used for.

Written, with pictures. Just like when I browse the P&M Tutorials forum here on Dakka, I don't waste my time on videos since there is nothing to tell me in advance if they are really worth my time. But a few pictures scattered throughout the text that I can skim and see will tell me right away if the article is worth my time.

Most definitely written articles with pictures. It's much easier for me to digest the information, plus they don't eat up as much of my data.
