Hello,

My brother has recently finished scratch-building a devilfish transport from paper, cardboard, and tooth-picks. He's looking for constructive criticism from the community.

What do you think?

Thanks in advance for any helpful tips you may have for a budding scratch-builder and painter. Also, if anyone is interested, we've put up a tutorial on how to scratch build this devilfish on my blog:

Wow, very nice. Though the burst cannon could be shorted down by a good bit. Perhaps even by half. Other than that, it is instantly recognizable and would require a closer look next to the real thing, IMO, to really tell it's "fake". Excellent job!

The correct question is, would I be enjoying this hobby if I did this?

The correct audience is you.

It's hard to capture the curved edges of the Tau with flat materials, but I think he's done a good job here! Most important thing is it definitely looks the part and I would be happy playing against it.

It definitely looks the part, but as has been said above the burst cannon could do with being a bit shorter.

Thanks for the feedback all. I was wondering about the burst cannon, it can be hard to guess the size when you don't have the actual model at hand. Does anyone here know the precise length of a burst cannon on a devilfish?

Quite nice! Very playable as far as proxies go. I think it would fit into a real Tau army pretty well. I really like how the drones fit in.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. My brother was a little worried about unearthing the trolls with this one, so you've managed to put his mind at ease!

@Desubot: He did contemplate just leaving it 'square', but it looked more like a cardboard box and less like a model that way! However, I imagine someone with greater painting and modelling skills than myself may be able to pull it off.

@Owain: The drones usually slot in pretty nicely, though occasionally they slip out on the battlefield.

I like this a lot and the more I look at it I believe you could probably pass it off as the 36K Model.
