I'm admitting this up front, this list is not competitive, but the theory behind it could be I think, the problem is points, I just don't think you can make it happen in 1850 or less. The beginning premise is that giving things like wraithguard or wraithlords a guaranteed 12" move each turn is inherently balance bending, they are too tough and too strong to be able to move that quickly, they become overpowered at that point in my opinion. Then add to that an Avatar, not much ink has been spilled by people scampering to run this guy, but I actually think at 195 points he is too cheap. Everyone knows his stat line is ridiculous, seven str 9 ap 1 armourbane attacks on the charge at initiative 10 with WS 10? Come on. But when you consider he will also be getting a guaranteed 12" move, and factor in his force multiplier of fearless, furious charge, and rage for models that can actually take advantage of it, things get interesting. The problem is the tax for using a warhost, none are geared toward wraith, and the ones that are footdar in nature have too many requirements to make it cost affective, the windrider host is the cheapest tax, and so I went with it, but It doesn't benefit from the theme of the rest of the force. The heart of the list are the wraithblades with axe's and shields, 3+ 4++ with 3 attacks on the charge at str 8 ap 2, going to really destroy things, and with the fast movement they will get there. Shubikes can go after infantry or other bikes, but the glaring weakness is anti-armor and anti-air, yes the wraiths will destroy armor, but they need to get there first, even with 12" movement it is a concern. The wraithknight luckily will be able to offer great anti-tank, with guided split-fire cannons he can reliably damage two vehicles a turn, but it's still not enough. The list could really use Crimson Death, but even with going down to 5-man squads of wraithblades and increasing the points to 2k, you're still 20ish points over, you can make it work by dropping a few shuriken cannons from the bikes, but it's a moot point since tournies are 1850 anyway.

This can be competative because I played something like this yesterday for a laugh, I had half the points of my opponent, and was gob smacked by how good the avatar and the wraithblades on foot were. I won.

But I learnt one thing: take axes.

The avatar grants rage (which the wraithblades already have, but the lord and knight do not) and they get furious charge so are str8 I would also change one squad of axes for dscythes for sure. One made it across the table yesterday and wiped out 2 marine squads and one dreadnaught on his own. Alone. dscythes mean no cover save no armour save except invul. Ever.

The Wraithlord also benefits greatly from rage and furious charge.

Basically this is what happens.. you march towards centre.. at one pace.. they will come fairly near you to engage you and stay perhaps one or two melee units might get an initial charge on u.

Use your avatar to charge units with flamers. Use the fact the opponent will run away and you get a free move at init 10 to catch him.
