Okay so I'm painting Dark Angels using a base of Caliban Green then washed heavily with Biel-Tan Green before applying anything else, but I am having some trouble finding a realistic color to do edge highlights with.
I started by using 50:50 Caliban Green and Warpstone Glow, but it's just barely noticeable. I tried doing that and then another very thin highlight on the sharpest edges with 50:50 Warpstone and Moot green, but it looks pretty terrible.
Anyone got any quick and dirty tips on how I can blend my base colour to get some soft but realistic looking edge highlighting?
When I take my time I can do some decent highlights, but I don't want to be spending 5 hours per mini otherwise I'll never get my army painted.

I am just looking at pictures online and it seems to me warpstone glow is too vibrant and maybe too yellow, so it's maybe giving a cartoonish look. Is that the problem?
For a duller highlight (which will typically look a bit more realistic) try mixing some light biege (bone type colour) in with your original Caliban green. Something like Rakarth Flesh.
If that ends up too dull, you can try something inbetween where you mix Caliban Green, Rakarth Flesh and Warpstone Glow, tweaking the levels of Rakarth and Warpstone to get the right amount of dull vs vibrant.

Hmm, I hadn't thought of that. Thanks for the tip, I'll give it a try tonight.

Use Moot Green, followed by a glaze of Waywatcher Green.

My technique for doing highlights is the dark base color, followed by two layers of highlights and then a glaze or wash of the color to tie it all together. It gives depth to the base color and tones down the highlights.
For example, my Crimson Fists Blue is two thin layers of VGC Imperial Blue, followed by highlights of VGC Magic Blue and Electric Blue, followed by one or two Armor Wash glazes. The armor wash is a blue/black color.
For a Dark Angels Green, I would use either Citadel Caliban Green or VGC Dark Green as the base color, followed by highlights of Citadel Moot Green or VGC Livery Green then do glazes of either Citadel Waywatcher Green or VGC Black Green Ink.

Thanks for all the tips guys. Here's two that I've done in the past couple of days. I really am not much of a fan of the bright highlights, but perhaps it's because I've gone a bit overboard.
Sorry about the quality of these two photos. My camera is busted so I'm using my phone at the moment.
This is how I have been doing my highlights previously - Warpstone glow building up to Moot Green:
And this is the one I did last night using Cadian Fleshtone and Caliban Green. I think I could easily still brighten them slightly, but I think I much prefer this look over that super bright moot green:

I prefer the more neutral highlights in the 2nd image rather than the cartoonish ones in the first image, much more natural looking, good job on it!

Thanks guys. I'm gonna go with that for now. I might try and lighten them by just a little bit as they're a little bit too soft in general lighting when not in front of a camera. I'm only gonna do that very slightly though.
