So basically he writes a codex the same way all the other GW writers do. If it is an army they like they get a hot buff. If it isn't there will barely be anything but the most insignificant changes made and those will often make something that used to be decent in the previous version less good now.
This is standard practice for GW codex writers, so hardly unique to Robin.

Perhaps OP should write a little about what he wrote, and his own thoughts about Cruddance.
I liked his tyranid codex, but not sure what else he wrote.

He's just another member of the design team. Even when his name was on a book, it's not like other people didn't take part in writing, and anything he did write still had to be approved by someone above him.

AM was "Games Workshop Design Team", but he was a frontrunner on it and Tyranids.
He was the frontpage name for the previous Imperial Guard book.
For those saying "didn't he write the 6th edition Space Marine book?"--nope. That was Matt Ward.
Cruddace has been involved with Tyranids, Guard, and then mostly Fantasy stuff(Empire and Tomb Kings off the top of my head).
Cruddace stated that he played Eldar and Necrons, not Guard.

I'm not a huge fan.
In the 6th Tyranid Codex (if he did write it, it only says the GW Design team to proably avoid rage against specific individuals in my opinion), his fluff depicted that the Tyranids get out-adapted by the Tau and ultimately lose. Why would you even write about a faction losing a battle/war and being outclassed in their own Codex?
I think he tried to justify it as you wouldn't hear about Tyranid victories as there would be no survivors which is a fair assumption, had it not been that IA: 4 - The Anphelion Project showed that Solomon Lok was able to transmit everything that happened to the Ordo Xenos before he (presumably) died.

terrible writer who cannot overcome his biasness against certain armies. He has openly said that he hates Tyranids, and thus has written them as the worst codex for 2 editions in a row.
He is much worse than Matt Ward. I'd rather have Matt Ward write our codex forever, than have crud touch our codex for another edition. At least Matt Ward makes all the armies he writes for overpowered. I can deal with a swarmlord riding on a swarmbeast, in a swarm, shooting swarm guns, but I cannot deal with an unplayable codex.

Tyranids lose all their major battles, not just that one. Which sort of makes sense. Tyranids don't really do "crusades." They eat everything they can until someone finally gets in their way and stops them. And then they end up spread out and shattered so that you, the player, have an excuse to use them against whatever your opponent is fielding that day. The Tau do "out-adapt" them in that story, but the 'nids were kind of working at a disadvantage. Besides, a big hive fleet (as opposed to the little one they faced in that story) getting through the Tau defenses would basically have meant the end of the Tau as a faction.
I actually liked a ton of the stuff in the 5th edition Tyranid book. The special characters were neat. I vaguely recall the internal balance on their weaponry being a little better, and it introduced some really cool big bugs with unusual mechanics. It just also had poor internal balance (possibly to sell lots of tervigons/termagaunts, possibly because new units are tricky to balance), nerfed carnifexes presumably because they wanted to encourage people to move towards swarms rather than "'nidzilla," and lacked a variety of ways to reasonably deal with 5th edition vehicles. 5th edition 'nids were actually pretty okay at glancing 6th edition vehicles to death, but then their new book happened. >_>
It's hard to say what I think of his work without knowing how much of the content in stuff he worked on was actually him versus his fellow designers versus him-but-with-money-guy-requirements. I liked the ideas in the 5th edition Tyranid book, but not some of the execution. Imperial Guard just aren't my thing, so I can't really comment on them. I don't play Fantasy so I can't comment on those.
@kburn: The word-guns, word-gear, and word-units thing wasn't exclusively a Matt Ward issue. I think it actually started with Phil Kelley (whose work I'm actually quite fond of despite the haters) overusing the word "wolf" and related terminology in the 5th edition Space Wolves book.

ATTENTION. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.

the battle of macragge. the tyranids couldnt win beacuse the smurfs are to important to the story line. but it was climactic it was apocalyptic and it was still awesome but when the tyranids get beaten by the tau at THERE own GAME it makes the army lose its awesomeness and it goes from becoming space bugs of death to space lugs of death

As a person, I have no idea how he is. On his work, I don't think he is very good. He wrote it or not, his name is on it. He takes credit when it's good like Space Marines and he should take credit when it's crud.
Because of Robin Cruddace that is the reason why all codices are done by "the design team" or what ever they call it now.

Matt Ward's writing was childish and fantastical, which caused the "muh grim dork" fans to hate him. He created things like thunderwolf calvary. However, his rules were solid, with good internal balance, and being a tad bit overpowered.
Cruddace just buffs the units he likes as hard as he can, and nerfs everything. Phil Kelly, who used to be worshiped by eldar fans has tuned up their OP-ness to 11 unashamedly. These writers are more grim dork than ward, but has all but made the game unplayable. Give me the choice between a bad game and bad fluff, I'll choose bad fluff any day.
If I could rewind time, I'd rather they sack crud and phil, but keep ward. Matt Ward was right. The fans were wrong.

My main knowledge of Ward is from his work on various 5th edition marine books, mainly the vanilla marines, BA, and GK. The vanilla marine book introduced drop pods, which were very annoying to deal with at the time. BA were *the* melee army of 5th edition, and GK had psifleman dreads, RAD grenade shenanigans, paladins+Draigostar, etc. Each of these books was annoyingly powerful when they came out, but to be fair, pretty much every book to come out in 5th edition was more powerful than the last. I enjoyed the BA and GK books (they had unique playstyles compared to other marines), but they had their exploitable options like most armies. With my nostalgia glasses on, I'd probably give thema solid B+.
Most of the Ward hate, I think, stems from his fluff both hyping up whichever army he's writing about to Mary Sue levels and making other armies less cool. Specifically, the whole, "Ultramarines are super cool, and all other marines spend hours looking themselves in the mirror and wishing they could be as cool as their favorite Ultramarines," stuff. Every army hypes itself up in its own codex (except maybe Tyranids), but they don't generally turn other armies into their fanboys. The GK were written as super marines. In the same way that normal saiyans from DBZ are pretty unimpressive next to super saiyans despite being BAMFs next to normal guys, GK being that much better than normal marines kind of lowered the status of normal marines in some gamers' eyes.
TLDR; it's mostly Ward's fluff that makes people upset with him, and they latch onto some of the questionable mechanics as something else to complain about. Because in case you didn't notice, the 40k fanbase isn't happy unless it gets to complain about something.

Theres a lot of conjecture and spitballing going on here.. and I'm one of em so take it with some salt.
That said my biggest hangup with how I perceive cruddace's writing to be is that he writes for fluff over game play. He envisions 'endless swarms of chitenous creatures surging around a nearly invisible venomthrope advance under the cover of mists untouchable to bolter fire, an unstoppable horde'. Only in game what it really means is a paper thin lynchpin forces the horde to crowd around him and die to blast weaponry while slogging 6" a turn. NOT a nid player btw never have never will.
I also suspect his hand in anything randumb or overly clunky because thats his signature.. like instinctive behavior, mob rule, power from pain (more clunky than previous even though it was supposedly made simpler), and well basically anything that doesn't function outside of sheer dumb incredible luck.. like wyches or simply overcrowded FOCs that show the writer(s) were novice at understanding the mechanics of a certain army.
I also blame lack of grenades on him and various other 'oversights' like forcing a model to be right handed or only exchanging a pistol for a pistol etc.. things which I can't prove but have that certain 'cruddex' feel to them.
Feel bad saying it but paying 80 bones a book I think I should expect some of the little things to be attended to.
I will add that I like the majority of ward and kelly rules that I am aware of because you can brew with it for ages. I can't stand delving a book and finding its played out before it even started or half the choices are invalid due to some stupid armywide rule or randumb nonsense.

I'm pretty sure the model teams made thunder wolves, he was asked to make rules for it.
Usually the rules are made for whatever they produce from The model design studio.
