This game has been in development for quite a while but was formally announced today. It's a miniature skirmish game set in the same world as the Mice & Mystics boardgame (and miniatures from both games are usable in the other). The game seems to be mainly aerial based but ground troops can also get involved by climbing a tree.

Plaid Hat Games is proud to present Tail Feathers, the exciting new miniatures skirmish game by our very own Jerry Hawthorne set in the beloved world of Mice and Mystics. Soar across the table, send your troops on dangerous missions, lock beaks with opposing birds, and defend your nest!

Featuring the beautiful hand-sculpted miniatures by Chad Hoverter Mice and Mystics fans have come to love, Tail Feathers raises the stakes with 13 dutiful ground troops, 5 headstrong birds that tilt for launching and turning, plus 5 daring pilots. Players will recreate the famous battles for aerial supremacy that shaped the Mice and Mystics world.

Outwit and outfly your opponent in stand-alone scenarios, or play a full campaign and see your units gain skill from one battle to the next.

Tilting Flight System

At the beginning of each round, players set their birds' tilts, indicating their intended flight direction for the turn. When your bird is activated, it has a chance to adjust its tilt (according to its pilot's skill), and then glides on variable paths in the direction it is leaning. Different birds come with different stats and abilities, and interchangeable pilots with their own unique characteristics and actions cards offer immense variability.

Send Ground Troops on Missions

Snibble on ValchirpIncluded ground troop miniatures, as well as the well-loved Mice and Mystics miniatures, aren't left behind, fighting alongside the birds and pilots! Ground troops run across tree branches, float across the battlefield on leaves, and make their way through the air being transported by friendly birds. Send your ground troops on dangerous missions each round, rescuing birds and pilots, attacking target birds, besieging the enemy tree and intercepting other mission teams! But be careful, because a swoop attack on your mission could spell disaster!

This looks to be rather a casual game with an estimated 4 small expansions released a year and I suspect a bigger one every so often but they are not looking to have a constant stream like X-Wings or Star Trek Attack Wing.

More info and images can be seen on the official site -

The painted birds they have shown at conventions look amazing, don't have any displayed on the official site yet though for me to link to.

You can see a few over at BGG though -

I really like the pistol wielding rat on a crow.

This looks like a lot of fun.

I will think really hard about buying this one. I nearly bought Mice and Mystics, and this one is even more tempting.

Redwall was one of the first real book series I got into (Goosebumps doesn't count), so this setting is very appealing.

Playing: Droids (Legion), Starks (ASOIAF), BB2
Working on: Starks (ASOIAF), Twilight Kin (KoW). Droids (Legion)

These look really beautiful at GenCon. As a fan of X Wing I think the idea is really cool.

This is a lot more appealing to me than X-Wing.

Now if only I could talk my family into playing- they won't even try Mice & Mystics with me, which I've been wanting to play for years now!

I started reading Redwall to them in the hopes of getting them more open to the theme, but my son accused me of using the book as some sort of Skaven propaganda tool and stood by his stance that he won't play any games with my dirty evil rats.

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

Same with me! I have the original Mice and Mystics and get eyerolls from the other half at the idea of playing... but adding birds??? I might be able to beg and plead and make it happen because the awesome has just been kicked up to 11. There will definitely be bribery involved as well, likely a bottle of whiskey for the other half as payment for tolerating my obsessions.

That is... brilliant. And hilarious!

As a service to all, because everyone should see... Here's some painted minis from boardgamegeek.com

Youre not missing anything from not having played Mice and Mystics, its bog standard dungeon crawling and TBH, fairly boring.
The minis ARE very nice though.

The rat looks pretty cool on the crow.

Way better than those goody two shoes mice.

My kid may have been right in me trying to further a Skaven agenda.

My copy of Mice & Mystics will eventually leave our home, but already I was trying to talk my daughter into using Mouslings instead of humans for Dungeon Saga, so that may just fit the bill for our heroic rodent needs...

You should try Mice and Mystics, especially if you have kids.

It's a wonderfully realized storytelling game, with some fantastic stories to tell, and make a great bridge/teaching tool, especially if you want to introduce the Jacques or Peterson books to your young ones.

Gameplay is better than many other dungeon crawlers out there, and the production value of the storytelling elements is better than any other dungeon crawler out there.

You've got to read the story elements out loud. Or even better, buy the $10 audio version.

I like the all-cooperative gameplay; it avoids the imbalanbce between hero and monster players that you get in Descent, etc.
