The title kind of says it all, I was just thinking about the actual advantage having a standard would give in a smaller sub 2000 point army

Share your thoughts and ideas or any tactics you have made work involving the standard upgrade

Most people probably will say it's not worth it. But that plus 1 to combat res has saved my butt more than once, along with the re-rolls of morale on the regimental standard

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

The reroll moral one is pretty decent.

+1 to combat res is.. Niche beyond belief. We're talking about a squad of 5 guardsmen here, if they end up in combat they're probably mince meat. Sure it can save your bacon once in a blue moon, but for the price do you really think it'll do more work consistently than a plasma gun, melta gun, or flamer?

The morale re-roll can be great.

+1 combat res is less useful, but it can save your life at times. Whether it is worth it or not depends mostly on the rest of your list. In general, I would only take a standard after I have already filled my squads with special weapons and still got points to spare. Special weapons are a higher priority than standards imo.

Regimental Standards aren't crucial, but it's never really a waste of points unless your army is completely mechanized save for your CCS. If you have a decent amount of guardsmen on foot, take it.

Platoon Standards should only really be brought if you expect to end up in close combat. They will improve your odds, even if it is only slightly. The thing is, you reeeeeally should avoid close combat. The Guard are all about the firepower, not the fisticuffs.
