Happy Imperial Citizen

Hey Dakka Dakka, I've been coming up with a few ideas for competitive lists with Grey Knights as the main detachment. My most recent idea has been Tau Allies with an imperial knight. The list looks as follows:

Grey Knights Nemesis Strike Force - 700 pts

Librarian - Mastery LvL 2 - 135

Strike Squad - Incinerator - 115

Nemesis Dreadknight - Teleporter, Greatsword, Heavy incinerator and Heavy Psycannon - 225
Nemesis Dreadknight - Teleporter, Greatsword, Heavy incinerator and Heavy Psycannon - 225

Tau Allied Detachment - 584pts

Cadre Fireblade - 60

XV104 Riptide - Ion Accelerator, Twin Linked Smart missiles, Velocity Tracker - 205

6x Fire Warriors - 54

XV109 Y'vahra Battlesuit - Stim injectors - 265 (FW model)

Imperial Knights - 465pts

Knight Crusader - Stormspear Rocket Pod, Thermal Cannon - 465

My basic thoughts and strategy of this list would have the Fire Warriors and Strike Squad capturing Objectives and harassing small lots of enemies, while the dreadknight goes for the big Melee threats. And have the XV109 Jump straight into the enemy line alongside the dreadknights and take out the heaviest tanks or armour 2 infantry, all this while the Crusader and riptide provide great fire support and air support, due to Velocity tracker on riptide and the Stormspear on the knight. If you have any comments or suggestions for this list I would much appreciate it.

I like it! I know this is old post but wanted to post anyway.

I have been working a tourney army 1850
CAD Tau
Crisis CC w/burst and ion
6 fire warriors
6 fire warriors

firebaseC
Riptide Cannon/sky fire

Dreadknight pcannon,flammer

1850. I know I won't make friends playing this but I want to try a big tourney some time and will run into triptide, trityrant and etc lists.
My troops are vulnerable. I was thinking of a unit of kroot, not sure of the tau commander either, any suggestions?

@ OP - You NEED the Firebase - preferred enemy against most power armored foes is a sin. Assuming this is your all rounder idea, which is looks like it is.

Drop the IK. Sorry but. I personally feel IK's are better as a multiple at this pts range. But that's from experience, and at 1850 honest critique is best, right?

As for the GK side. Great. Best to be minimal here. Flamer always minimum on Dreadknights.
Consider Incinerator on Strikes though, 5pts can clear a unit from cover after deep striking Turn 1, top or bottom.
Last game I played (vs Tau Emp+Base) I scored first blood through one incinerator template.

If I were to run this I'd run the minimal GK as you have, adding an incinerator though. Strike units don't last too long but one flamer can change a whole battle; seeing as FB is VERY important as far as objectives go, trust me cover's a good tool and people want to abuse it.
Lv 2 on the Lib is usually a sin for GKs but you are running the honest bare minimum and you won't be have many charges anyway so this is ok.
Really you're using GKs as an excuse to team NDKs with Tau firepower. Lol. Sorry. (I don't blame you).

On the Tau side. Firebase as mentioned.
No Knight, point sink, 1850 tournament level it'll get ripped to bits. (or should, depends on your hobby store play level).

I wouldn't follow the above idea of running 3 Riptides. Out of all the good Tau tourney lists 2 is usually the max; also from experience. Your troops could or should really be fire warirors for wound numbers really. But that's just me, also, cover is a blessing, as mentioned.
In my local meta our Tau players tend to run at least 1 jump unit of suits. And 1 suicide suit designed to blow up annoying tanks etc.

I'm just the GK expert, Tau's not my forte, just going by one of my best mates advice and the stuff I see usually.

Side question - what's your usual meta like? I am assuming you want to use this in tournaments as stated in your opening post.
Anyway g'luck!

7th Editon:

GK/RS: 1-0
GK: 3-0

I adjusted my army. The meta is all over the board. I plan on playing this army against competitive lists for tourney play only. I will be playing against imperial knights, Eldar, Chaos and etc.
I really like using suits and will see how this list does. I have the shooting firepower and needed some grey knights back up to provide close combat support. I also wanted to play a list
that could be used in LVO type tourney and different than any of those armys that I saw out there. I will try using 3 for now but wonder what you would add if you take away one riptide. Thanks for your inputs.

I could run a crap load of kroot that would be fun to do. If I run a squad of suits for around the same points of the riptide, how should I outfit them? I wanted to run Drago but couldn't find the points.
would it be crazy to run Drago w/ strike squad instead of the terminators? I could get the 40pts from the terminators and 205 from the riptide if I need to.

If you dropped one riptide you could get a 3 man crisis team with 2 fusion blasters each and 2 drones then spare points towards pathfinders.

Hoping to get a Blood angel army after finishing a mighty Tau empire army.

You need to find points to get a kroot hound in each unit. The outflank with acute senses is a must. Very good at grabbing those end objectives!

I like the idea of the Kroot hound. I will look for some points.

As for the C suits w/fusion, I like it.

crisis unit x3. 6 Fusion guns, drone controller, with 2 gun drones and 5x pathfinders right? I don't have my codex in front of me.

I decided to change the terminators to strike squads and take some extras off the force to get two pathfinders squads. That brings my markerlights to 9 total in my army.
I will try the crisis suits for one riptide on the next try and see which one works out better for me.

I brought a similar list to a tourney back in 6th. You don't need so many pathfinders, I'd swap a unit plus an R.tide for 2 skyrays. Alternatively if you can fit in a semi buff-commander with a few marker drones then you stick him with the b-sides.
And put EWO on everything!
