Quite the contrary, I play Deathwing but I'd never make a DA character for Deathwatch. I get my "DA fix" from 40k, for RPG I want to try something different.
I play a Lamenters Devastator. That may seem like unintuitive combo, but it is actually great as it ensures my character is well-rounded and effective in all situations. Also, Lamenters with their somewhat controversial past opens up some roleplaying opportunities, which are scarce in DW.

I played an absurdly stealthy Raven Guard who snuck around sniping and knifing people.

I should think of a new signature... In the meantime, have a

I played an Exorcist tactical marine. I do my best to avoid stereotypes (the Iron Hands techmarine, the Blood Angel assault marine, etc.) because we've seen these characters hundreds of times. There's nothing new to them. My character focused on how various xenos manipulated the warp and how these methods could be countered.

As for roleplaying, my party had absolutely no problem. We had our "common" objectives but we each also had character specific objectives as well as objectives given to us, either individually or as a group, by various NPCs that we had developed relationships with. These NPCs included an exiled Rogue Trader, the Lord Judge of the Arbites for the largest hive in the sector, the Master of Relics of the Angels of Absolution chapter, and even a sorcerer of Nurgle. There were plenty of opportunities to weigh the value between duty to ones chapter, to ones superior officer, to the Deathwatch, to the greater accomplishment of the crusade, and to oneself. Never let people tell you there is little to no roleplaying or character development in Deathwatch. These people don't know astartes.

I'll admit I also play invaders for my sm army. Started painting them in the 5th edition, randomly picked them out of the book. Then when I started making my DW character, I was shocked to discover my random army color scheme had an entry in the rpg. After that his chapter was a no brainer. I'm currently running a Tactical, I like their versatility.

I have always felt the obvious race/class is usually the wrong one
