With the destruction of 8th edition fantasy, running in tandem with the release of a dumb down diet coke version of a game in its place. AOS...
I'm sorry if your a fan of Age of Sigmar but compared to 8th edition it sucks and is totally geared to the simple minded. Its only missing pre painted
and assembled models.

To Games Workshop changing the names of there stores to warhammer, you must also take into consideration the release of 30k and the departure of the hobbit.
To there money report to them saying they are gearing towards teens. However the prices are without doubt stupid high. So junior would have to do more than
ram sack mommy's purse to get into the game.

To the obvious ass kicking they are receiving from Privateer Press every game store in my area and there are a lot are all playing either MTG or Warmahordes.
With no sight of 40k or AOS.

I'm calling this one people, they are going to tear down and squash 40k, and do a reboot of 40k, that's why you are seeing no game support or release schedule
for 40k right now.

My question is if I am right even really close to being correct on this "How do all those people out there like myself who have dumped thousands into this game feel?

I mean they have done it before with rogue trader I don't think its a far pitch considering everything listed above, what do you think ?

Might be the last straw some of use need to break the addiction lol.

I'd be fine with a revamp, however I wouldn't want it dumbed down

The reason why you're not seeing any 40k product lately is because they want to get stuff out for Age of Sigmar, and GW apparently can't promote more than one thing at a time, despite its size. Fantasy has taken a back seat in the past while GW pumped out endless 40k product, too; if I'm not mistaken it took them the better part of a year to put out the first 8th edition army book.

I dont think 40k will get AoS'd. It might even be that fantasy got AoS'd so they can put more focus on 40k, because that is their signature game.

Also what is stopping you from just playing 8th with your friends?

A little bit harsh on the AOS players. Saying it's aimed at the 'simple minded' is quite the passive aggressive slap to the face to anyone who enjoys a game that doesn't have tedious bullcrap in it. let's face it, both Fantasy and 40k are so full of bloat it's beyond excusable and makes even a 'non simpleton' scratch their head. Attacking someone's mentality is pretty rude.

Anyway, back on topic. I wouldn't be surprised if 40k got a massive overhaul. Will it go AOS route? I doubt it. not unless AOS proves to be massively and undisputedly successful in the near future. 40k right now is keeping them afloat. Cutting off their life blood by jumping the shark would be a completely idiotic move. Even for GW.

Also, as others have said, the lack of 40k product right now is due to their focus on promoting AOS. They are pretty much all hands on deck for it to get it rolling and put 40k on the back burner for now. (Since Fantasy had gotten nothing for ages...of sigmar...HA!...hm...)

1 fantasy had an issue it stopped being attractive for new players when you realised how much you had to buy to start playing it.

Your area hardly a big market compared to how big it is overall
MTG hardly an wargaming and warma is still small compared to it.

The lack of realises was bound on milking the aos hype and 40k had a horrible perioid of non stop stuff this year.

30k is a good stuff however limited in choice even now.

Imho 40k just needs abit of rule rework coz of bloat of em atm.

There is not this idea.

Sure, why not? 40k could use a good trimming of fat.

I don't think it's actually happening, though.

Voted the third option, because polls that insult people annoy me.

This. 40k needs a reboot. The game is getting to a point where you essentially have to make your own game via house rules to have any fun with it.

If GW wants to commit suicide they can change 40k to make it like AoS. Personally I like all the options and how the game is growing, more variety is a good thing in my book, just need to put a little more emphasis on balancing units and FAQ's/Erratas

Tbh I think AoS is going to be a pretty big fail over all, though will take a year or more to figure that out. Unless they pull a lot of other stuff out of the bag that keeps the existing warhammer fantasy crowd drawn to replacing their entire armies again.

If they do that with 40k, then I think there will be a tonne of table flippings that will spell the end of GW. They just won't do that twice without some serious business data behind it.

I would love to see some of the 40k ruleset trimmed down a little though.

But there's a heap of alternative games out there these days. I have a friend who now NEVER plays 40k any more, unless I've forced him.

Time will tell though.

I would be very surprised if they did dumb down 40k. The whole point in doing it to fantasy was because it wasn't selling well compared to their other lines. They would be taking a hell of a risk rebooting their main source of income. 40k and Space Marines are their bread and butter. Having said that, their CEO has being saying that they see themselves more of a model making company for collectors rather than a gaming company so I could very well be surprised since not a huge amount of effort has gone into them keeping their rules up to date (I'm still slightly bitter about the lack of Blood Angel FAQ).

I personally do not want to see 40k dumbed down like AoS. If it is then I would just continue using the 7th edition rulebook or move to Forgeworld's excellent HH. If GW do release a plastic HH box set/standalone game this year like the rumour sites are saying then it will be a lot cheaper to build up a starter HH marine army. The main thing that puts me off HH is the lack of Eldar and other xenos races.

They have done reboots of 40k before. Will it happen in the future? Probably. In the near future? Probably not. And when it does I don't think it will get the AoS treatment.

OP, have you ever actually played AoS? It sounds like you didn't.
Sure, I hate that they destroyed WHFB, but AoS is not simple or dumb, it is actually a lot of fun.
If only they would have supported both systems...

40k is not getting the same treatment though. WHFB got it because it was barely selling anymore (thanks to people buying from Mantic and other sources) and many things were too generic to be copyrighted. So rather than fixing those problems, GW simply moved on to a new IP and new market.
40k is almost all of GW income, and the miniatures also much less generic. As long as 40k stays strong as it is now, it will not be scrapped like WHFB. It may get an overhaul in the future like RT to 2nd, but not a totally new system like WHFB to AoS.
The current lack of 40k releases is due to GW being busy with starting up AoS. Once AoS is fleshed out, they are likely to return to 40k.

GW is committing suicide by continuing down the path they're going on now with 40k. I'm all for more content, but more content means more exploitation. No one asked for Super Heavies, dirty cheap Gargantuans, and Strength D to be a regular part of games. They've killed the "pick-up game" scene, made half the codexes invalidated because of power creep, raised the prices of their models, and on top of it all, they're ceasing FAQs and Erratas.

Granted, not all of this is completely new for them, but they've been shoving the knife in their own chest, and slowly pushing down on it for who knows how long.

I don't know if there's going to be an AoS style reboot, but the game certainly feels like it's being slowly dumbed-down into a Command & Conquer style of gameplay. Units are now faster and can survive otherwise fatal hits (move+shoot rapid fire, hull points).

If you're just going to insult people there seems very little point in this thread.
