So, I finally beat the Witcher 3 speed running it in 72 hours. My roommate did almost every quest except for the werewolf one due to a glitch. In 2 months, he spent 19 days (456 hours) beating it. If I was that dedicated to painting an army at 1850 points, with basic lighting highlights and detail highlights( primer, base coat, second coat, lighting blending, basic highlight, then highlight the parts to stand out, ) about how many hours do you think it would take me? I have had experience in the past, but it's been 2 years since I painted anything. I was taught through a games workshop store and a person who placed first at kublacon around the year 2001 with a custom war boss bike when the 40k tournament was called the Golden Gargant.
I'm nowhere near his level or the GW guy, but I can paint a nicely detailed army. Anyone on here have any experience in fully dedicating themselves to painting a detailed army, and about how many hours did it take you? Looking for answers from people who finished, only army I ever painted up to this standard was 1000 points of white scars took about 90-100 hours. Thank you for the input. I'm a hobbyist as much as a gamer and it's awesome to be back. Glad to see community is still as strong/ stronger than ever. (Sold out rtt I've never heard of until last year)

P.s. I'm painting around the standard of my chaos noise marines in my gallery.

Parrdon my tiredness, but I've read through a couple of times, and you haven't mentioned which army you want to paint 1850 points of.
Talk to us in terms of model numbers, fella.

Arf, you added it. Still, quantity?

Basically I think it is would people would label Lvl 2 if it was commission work. Lvl 1 is basic 3 colors no highlights, Lvl 2 is details but not painting expert, Lvl 3 is painting expert. They all also will have the same color scheme, with tattoos to show which god they are marked with.

Honestly, this kind of thing changes a lot from painter to painter. If you're really fast and not spending too much time on details, you can get a mini done in about an hour, maybe 45 minutes each. The Daemons will go by quicker since they have less variety of detail, and the cultists might take longer because of all the detail on them. The Helldrakes are probably what'll take you longest in this army. Just spend an hour or two a day painting and you'll have a decently painted army relatively quick.

You could chug through the infantry in a week to ten days if you hated yourself.
I did 35 miniatures to somewhere between the level 1 and 2 you describe in 24hrs including basing.

Realistically you're looking at a month minimum for the infantry, assuming you have free time during the day, and a week each on the drakes if you concentrate on little else. But you don't want to do that because you will end up hating your army.

Don't view it as a race unless you need them for a certain event. Break it into chunks, set a chunk per week, break it up with a few fun pieces... Eventually enjoy your collection.

Most of the daemons wont be terribly difficult as long as your good with using washes and an easy dry brush layer or two. The Heldrakes have a crap ton of detail on them that most people want to pick out. Those can easily take 10 hours each.

See pics of my Orks, Tau, Emperor's Children, Necrons, Space Wolves, and Dark Eldar here:

Sounds good. Going without video games for about 2 months going to be plenty of time to get most of army done.

If you're new to painting but you still want a decent looking army, I'd allow 1 to 2 hours per infantry model, a few hours for character models and maybe around 10 hours for large things.

If you know what you're doing when it comes to speed painting, you can probably cut that down to 45 minutes per infantry model.

If you don't care if they look below average (don't bother cleaning mould lines, don't bother picking out all the details when painting), then maybe 20 minutes per model.

So what's that, between 50 and 200 hours?

So about 60 models X 2 hours so about 120-200 hours it sounds like. I have slight OCD lol, I'm only painting these guys up once and then maintaining any chipping/ wear and tear. This is going to be my only army for at least 1 year so going all out.

Frontline Gaming order arrived, they were kind enough to let me stop by when they were closed to the public so I didnt have to wait for it to be shipped out. Got lucky, Lord of Change arrived late on Saturday so picking it up saved me at least another 3-5 days of waiting and them some $ on shipping. The boxes shown are what was on order. Money's tight since I'm in the middle of moving so I'm going to change my list around a bit until I can afford the soul grinders. Plague grinders are VERY tempting from FW but I need patience or I'll go into debt from this lol. Probably will pick up some new stuff, but for now this is plenty to have fun with.
