Hi all,

Wondering if anyone can help clarify something for me.

I would like to take a Ravenwing strike force detachment with a Dark Talon in it. The formation states that you can either start on the table on turn 1 or choose for everything to automatically arrive from reserve on turn 2.

How does that work if I have a flyer in there and I wanted everything to start on the table? I interpret it as the flyer starting in reserves as per usual rules (could be wrong here), but if this is the case I'm not sure if I would have to roll the dice for reserves or if it would automatically arrive on turn 2.

The reason for the question is that I would like to field a joint Ravenwing strike force/Deathwing Strike force and the Deathwing have to be in reserve and arrive from turn 2 onwards, so I need my Ravenwing part to be on the table turn 1 otherwise I automatically lose with nothing being on the table turn 1. Plus I would like those teleport homers on the bikes (turbo boosting up the table) to stop all that scattering when the DW arrive.

Thanks in advance

Previous thread on the issue (which I accidentally caused to get de-railed... )

Argument 1 - "deploying normally" for Flyers is by arriving from reserves.

Argument 2 - Flyers are unable to deploy 'normally' (i.e. on the table, in your deployment zone, just like every other unit, 'normal'), thus your entire RWSF must be in reserves.

Whilst I'm more of the opinion that 2 is correct (if really, really annoying, just like the DWSF restrictions), 1 seemed to be the prevalent opinion in the thread I linked.

I dont understand how this is even a argument.

Deploy normally. Deploy Normally...how do you deploy a flyer normally? Just like the flyer vehicle rules say to deploy a flyer, it starts in reserve! Deploy normally does NOT mean on the table, it means deploy it normally. Its normal to deploy a flyer in reserves.

From 'Deployment' in the main rulebook:

We've included rules for the most common method to deploy here. This is often referred to as the 'Standard Deployment Method' and is the method used in the majority of Warhammer 40,000 missions.

To me, when they say "... deployed as normal..." they are referring to the 'Standard Deployment Method' as that is how you normally deploy.

Reminder: Reserves are Mission Special Rules, not part of Standard Deployment Method...

Its also a part of the rules for Flyers and certain unit types.
