I like the idea of being able to upgrade a veteran Sgt. to a special character, but I just can't see there being any reason to spend that many points on a T3, W1 model. Has anyone ever used him and found it to be worthwhile?

I could see him being worth it if he could issue orders or something, but I don't see that happening any time soon.

I'm gonna lean towards probably, but I can see how maybe he might be fun in a chimera running with a plasma vet squad, since he's relentless and can fire out of the hatch.

I don't think he's a sound investment but few special characters really are.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

Like most of the Guard special characters, he's horrifically overcosted for what he does. He used to give his squad some nice buffs but no longer.

Yes especially since you can pretty much buy a second veteran squad for the same price.

Harker is pretty much useless yes. He's way overcosted for what he does

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."

Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

Nope, waste of ink sadly. Model isn't half bad either, you'd think they would have put some effort to make it worth buying. To think they kept Harker while they kicked our Marbo.

Yes, 55 points of bad decisions. Harker is pretty much the epitome of the Astra Militarum codex currently. Horribly over priced and useless.

I made this real cool Chaos Harker conversion for the last Guard codex, when he at least gave Infiltrate to his Catachan Devils, and would put him in a sniper unit, or an infiltrating Chimera, but now there is no benefits to him at all in the Astra Militarium book.

In current edition he is terrible, but judging what they did to Telion he will become a separate HQ choice and will be buffed to 2 wounds.

The Emperor is our only chance!

And hopefully regain his relentless HB and drop a few points too.

Sorry OP, in his current state Harker is useless.

What DOES he do in the current codex? I've never seen him fielded.

Basically he is a 55 point upgrade for a Veteran section and comes with a rending Bolter.

I posted in proposed rules, about giving him the ability to issue all orders to his own squad,

However this would come at the cost of no other officers being able to issue orders to his veteran squad.

That, and giving him +1 T and maybe a second would MIGHT make him worth taking.

+1T, return his weapon to a relentless HB and reduce him to around 30 points at the most, preferably less, and you might just bring him back to within sight of viability.

I enjoyed the old "Harkerstar" of the last codex, setting it up with camo cloaks made for a nice entrenched threat. Sadly those days are behind us and Sgt Harker sits now on a self, a relic from the glory days.

The enemies of Mankind may employ dark sciences or alien weapons beyond Humanity's ken, but such deviance comes to naught in the face of honest human intolerance back by a sufficient number of guns.

Harker still has the special rule for relentless. And his heavy bolter has the rending special rule as well, but her still isn't worth it.
