Subject: GW Tutorial: How to paint the Tau Ghostkeel Battlesuit (Vior'la Sept)
I usually prime everything black instead of White. If I decided to go with this color scheme, instead of painting the Ulthuan right over his primed color, what could I use as a midway point between black undercoat and Ulthuan?

Grey primer?Though you won't get that from GW. Maybe Vallejo or Army Painter.
I actually really love the GW YouTube tutorials. They are very accessible and for someone like myself who's not a very talented painter, they are easy to digest and a good place to pick up new tips.
I feel like they're on the cusp of making really good use of the YouTube space, but just need to take the dive. I would love to see a well produced sample battle report from a scenario out of a new campaign book, or when they release a new codex to showcase new rules and models.
Anyway I digress. Thanks for the share!

Lol Exalted! I like Duncan's videos too, he breaks it down and makes it seem less difficult.

So, anyone had a go at Duncan's scheme yet? I just tried it out on the one Tau model I own (a metal XV15) and it's come out brilliantly! I love the contrast of the red helmet on the white, and the subtle blue lenses add so much to it as well.
The only slight criticism I'd make is that the Evil Sunz highlight was a bit too jarring for me, so I used Mephiston Red + Wild Rider Red.
It's scary how good these tutorials are at getting me to consider splurging yet more money on yet another army....

It's basically the same paint scheme I've had as a mental image for the past few years for my 'planned' (read: hypothetically possibly going to maybe happen at some point in the future) Tau army. I actually have money now, and I absolutely adore the ghostkeel model, so I'm going to just use this tutorial I think, possibly add in some extra steps here and there, but basically the same.
I'm probably going to switch the red out for a pale blue, though, so as to distinguish from people using this scheme, as I can use it as a winter camo scheme then.
It's not a professional picture (or paint job by any means) but this is what I got from following his tutorial. I absolutely love the look. It is a lot of work, though. I also do not recommend assembling the model to the point that he did. I kept off the arms, armor plates and head.

Wow, blackforge! That came out splendidly! You're spot on with the amount of weathering. Did you follow Duncan to the letter on the red for the helmet? Yours looks 50 times better than how my Khorne Red/Evil Sunz came out.

Nice looking Ghostkeel! The only thing I can think of that might be slightly off is the OSL on the fusion collider. Maybe a bit much? Really I'm splitting hairs though, the model looks awesome!
