Hey mates. While debating on doing my own chapter for awhile, a mate of mine got me into reading the Horus Heresy Models and to be short and to the point, I am a huge fan of the Luna Wolves and honestly, I think it would be cool to bring them back in the 40k Universe. With that being said, currently working on there background story and while some aspects of it are easy, such as Night Lords being there eternal rivals and there liken to the former Captain Lokken in being recreated, the paint scheme is another factor I like as it is quicj and simple to paint. Anyways, if anyone has any tips, ideas, or methods to create the Luna Wolves paint scheme I would great appreciate it. Model wise, I can use Space Wolf bits together with some others to give them a bit of an older but awesome look. Pic is what I am planning on painting them to start out.
Pic is what I am planning on painting them to start out. however if anyone has any ideas on what I could do to make the Sgt.'s or Commander stand out I would appreciate it. From what I have seen, they are primarily White armor with Black trim with certain aspects of there armor/equipment being a solid red color. Correct? Note that the Salamander Symbol will really be a Wolf, as I have a bunch of Wolf-head shoulder Pads from the Space Wolf Kit, but I might order some of the Wolf Transfer Sheets from FW or the shapeways shoulder pads with the Luna Wolf Symbol.

Top knots are the Luna wolves trade mark, so I'd consider them to make your sergeants stand outside.

That's one option, but when browsing I noticed that the Squad Leaders also either had Red helmets instead of white, or like you mentioned, either the top knots or the Roman - Legionary Style helmet decoration. One option was to give my Sgt.'s the Wolf Helmet that comes with the Grey Hunter box set. Thoughts?

Could work. I never pictured the Luna wolves looking like space wolves under the helms, but that might just be me. I think having a mixture would definitely suit them though, it would bring out the feral, individualistic impression that they give off.

They wont be regular Space Wolves under the helms mate. The most I am using is a few Space Wolf torso's and Shoulder Pads for the Wolf Iconography, and the Wolf Helmets are just an idea for the Sgt.'s only and nothing else. AS it stands, I will be using the Company Champion heads from the Space Marine Command Set as the standard helmet, and from there make some minor moves to give them an older look but again, these guys are not going to be exactly as they where before.

Ah ok, when I looked at the grey hunter page on gw's site I must have been looking at the wrong guy, thought the sgt had the bare head and that that was the one you meant. All that sounds good.
