I'm the type of person who hates to sell anything but I have a few army's now and thinking about selling one to invest more into others. The one I'm thinking about selling I love the models but hate the play style ( mostly melee codex). Buddy of mine says I should just pack them away and see if I chane my mind but I think about what I could get for my other army's with the funds.

I know this is a decision I have to make just wanted to start I discussion see if others sold and regret or good riddance?

I would maybe consider selling some, but not all of the models. I've sold an army or two and every time I kept a few models from it because I liked the models, but hated how it played. Basically, if you're truly not going to play it then sell it, but keep a few of the models.

I've sold tons of half or completely unpainted stuff. I don't regret much of that, unless I circle back to that army as a later project. Oops.

I've sold a handful of mostly to fully painted armies (what army is every completely painted, really?). I don't regret the WFB Empire, the Space Marines, or the 3rd edition Dark Eldar. I sometimes wish I hadn't sold the nearly fully painted Battlewagon army from 5th edition. It was a really cool army, and it would be a great nemesis to my Imperial Guard.

Under the couch

I sold my first Ork army (which was one of my very first two armies), and regretted it ever since... It wasn't very good, being mostly made up of the 2nd ed starter models, a bunch of Space Crusade models, and a few extra bits and pieces like the original Shokk Attack Gun and a veritable horde of snotlings, assembled and painted back before I was particularly good at it (and my first batch of orks was done before I had even bought any green paint, so had wildly varying skin tones done with mixing yellow and blue).

But they were a large part of where I started in this hobby, and so I miss them :(

As a result, while I've sold stuff that I've built specifically for that purpose, I wouldn't part with any more minatures that I've done for myself, even if I no longer use them in game.

I have friends who lovingly painted a massive dark angel army in 2nd edition... only to sell it in 4th. The same guy bought a new dark angel army in 5th, sold it due to financial issues, and started his army again.

As most know, you hardly ever get what you paid when you sell out as people want a deal. Let's just say he spent a fortune and still doesn't have what he originally had. He regrets it.

I have also sold armies I wasn't using only to regret it later. I am more than just a gamer, I am a collector and modeler too. Once you sell a mini you lovingly crafted, you will never get it back.

If you have an army you are starting, never used, never cared much for, then sell it. If it's an army you used quite a bit in previous editions (power creep changes), save it or you will buy it all again in a newer edition for double the price.

Sold a fully painted Necron army after 7 TH ruined my two favorite units, right when they became the new hotness and made enough for two more full armies.

Zero, zero regrets.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

I've sold part of several armies (generally because I wanted to downsize and didn't need 15 rhinos anymore, or 7 Falcons.).

Never sold a full army. Never wanted to.

I used to have an old army based on Space Wolf models (the original SW models, before they became stupidly weighted down with wolf iconography) painted in my own custom colours. Beautifully painted if I do say so myself. I suffered some bad luck and had to sell them in a hurry. I got $200 for (about 50 minis and a few vehicles) and always deeply regretted it. The guy I sold it to said he was happy to sell it back to me- for about $800. I deeply regret that, though I didn't have much choice at the time.

I sold my daemon army which was the only army I had fully painted. It had the old metal daemon prince which I had converted to have wings from a fantasy dragon and a huge glaive from a model from that inquisitor game GW made a while ago. I also sold my world eaters CSMs. Regretted it ever since

“Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls.
The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does.
That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

I sold my Space Marine half of an AoBR set once (plus a few more marine bits) that I had mostly painted. I figured I'm the only one with Orks, so I'd sell it for cheap to a guy who had just started a Space Marine army, and use the money to get the Ork half of someone else's AoBR they didn't need. Which is a win-win, we both get bigger armies faster, and it adds to the variety of armies people get to play against.
The problem being, the guy I sold it to haven't played in years now.
Now, that isn't really a big problem, but I hate the fact they are just sitting in a box somewhere, when I could borrow them out to someone wanting to try out the game instead.
And I don't even have the chance to buy them back either cause' I haven't seen the guy in years

Other than that I've only swapped the Dwarf half of an BfSP (which I got for half the original price) for a box of un-used Mournfang cavalry, don't regret that since the only consistent Fantasy player around uses dwarfs

EDIT: The only other stuff I have that I am willing to part with is two unused boxes of nids, a box of crypt ghouls, a box of skaven and a box of high elf somethingorothery which I got for literally one fifth of the original price. I'm only keeping them around so I can sell them for cheap to people wanting to start said armies. Heck, I'd give them away for free if it got anyone to actually play against locally

I sold my Nurgle marines army that was composed of Rogue Trader era Plague Marines and two models I'd won Golden Demons with. I needed the money at the time but now make 4 times what I got for them in a week.

So....yeah I regret the gak out of it.

For about 5 minutes, I considered selling off a good portion of my stuff to go full force into forgeworld space marine models.

I'm talking 60 metal wraithguard, 6 metal wraithlords, a company of metal legion of the damned, and a small army of metal harlequins.

I thought of selling it for about 5 minutes, got light headed, ate some pie and then never thought of it again..

I completely dropped from the hobby once. I made a chunk that went towards my wedding. 5 years later I got back into the hobby, no regrets about selling.

Sold off most all of my CSM, no regrets, just wasn't feeling them.

In the process of selling my Necrons, not for any reason aside from I am not enjoying them that much. Using profits for a R&H army that I have been loving from day 1.

I started off with a Dark Angels army a few years ago, but ended up selling it due to not finding them terribly exciting to play as. Earlier this year I started putting together a new Dark Angels force as ever since I had sold them I kind of regretted it and then when the new codex came out that made them good again it swayed me. Now with my new Dark Angels I have a few more years painting practice and am doing better job at painting them all up this time.

I would say that if you have a large army and feel the need to sell to fund a new and exciting army, then keep a small portion of your force as either low point game force, or keep the key units/favourite units to use as a small allied detachment.

Well its not as big a deal if you have several armies to play with. Selling one to add to another is wise, though a smarter play by a long shot is straight trading. You lose no value when you do that. I always prefer trades.

I have enjoyed playing different armies all the time that its second nature now. I suppose for me, a person who actually PLAYS with most of his toys over the course of a year, I'd probably come to yearn for it back if i sold one. But I don't think my collection is typical. So... Who knows? I would always trade though so that you have the trade bait to sell/trade for equal utility when and if you ever get the yearning.

Hold out bait to entice the enemy. Feign disorder, and then crush him.

In the... oh... 20 years or so that I have been in and out of 40k, I have probably sold 4 or 5 complete armies, but always kept a handful of models from it. Usually whatever model was the Warlord/HQ and his/her "honor guard" (not specifically the case, just a half-dozen or so troops that could stand in as such on the shelf).

The only army I will not sell a single model of for any reason is my Sisters. I will starve in the streets before I sell those.

As far as regretting it? Nah, not really. I mean, there's been a few times in other RPGs where I was like, "man, if I still had Unit X-from-army-I-sold-five-years-ago, it would work great in this scene!" but, nah, no real regrets.

I sold the first army I ever made, a Lizardmen army (from when they were in the starter set). I regretted it because it didn't occur to me just how much time and effort I'd put in to it and thus how much time and effort it would be to create a new army.

That said.... if I decided that I most definitely don't want to play war games any more, I'd just sell all my stuff. Or possibly just throw it out because don't know if I can be fethed sorting through it all to sell it.

There's no doubt that what draws me back to the hobby is my existing collection, so if I ever decide I want to quit for good it makes the most sense to get rid of it.
