Hello, fellow dakkanoughts i have a question

i have a small DA force comprising of
1 tactical squad
1 company vet squad
azrael
1 predator
and a venerable dreadnought

and was wondering should i swap to another force as i like the look of skitarii (the whole of adeptus mechanicus in general) and was wondering how good they are compared with my DA as christmas is coming up and i should get around £150 (cash instead of presents) and was thinking abkut getting dark vengence as it comes with a fair about of DA but was wondering if skitarii are any better or worse as i have only started not that long ago so i could still swap without losing to much but i do have a question about skitarri is it me being blind or do they not have an hq?

so to sum up my rambling, should i stick with DA or swap to skitarii (or any of the adeptus mechanicus) and is the battle maniple (man-nipple) any good input from skitarii plyers is welcomed but 'do what you want to do' is not helpful as thats why im asking the question in the first pkce as im a new player and am asking pros also feel free to vote in my poll

p.s sorry for any bad spelling/grammar my tablets keyboard is crap

Well, you started DA, I would honestly stick with them since you've already invested a fair bit into them. Dropping them just because you like Skitarii as well isn't that smart imo. Give yourself some time, build up your DA, and after a while if you're still interested in Skitarri then pick them up, you can have more than one army. And no, you're not crazy, Skitarii don't have their own HQ's, I think they have their own force-org chart.

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

Yes. I'm fairly certain Skitarii are battle brothers with most of the other IOM factions. Make sure though, I never run allies so I'm not familiar with the rules for that.

I would stick with DA for now. All the AdMech stuff is expensive even for GW (money per point). Space Marines are cheaper to get to the level of a tournament-level force. They are also easier to paint. If you are looking to be competitive, get some DA Ravenwing.

And yes, you can ally in some Skitarii later if you choose. They are an Imperial faction, so Battle Brothers with Dark Angels. I have long-term plans to do this myself (not soon though...).

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000

First of all, do what you want to do. Have fun. That being said I know you are trying to get something that will help you what is better or worse. Problem is, if you are going down this route, you will be quitting pretty soon. The way I see it you are asking "what army is easier to win with."

Don't buy this or that because something is "better" and will be easier to win. You want to win, there is other games better than 40K for winning with plastic toy soldiers.

I have the feeling you want your Dark Angels.. You also want to start another army. A lot of us have 2, 3, 4 or more armies. So I say do both. This way you have your Dark Angels and the Skitarri as well. Ally them in. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't or shouldn't.

Do what you want. Buy what is going to make fun for you. Yes funds are limited. So since you already have some Dark Angels, I say get some Skitarii and start there.

Only problem is, you will have 2 small forces now instead of making one bigger force. So now the question is, do you want a bigger Dark Angels army or a small Dark Angels army and a small Skitarii army?

For modelling and collecting wise, I say go theSkitarii route. Game wise, I don't know, I haven't played in years so not sure what would be better or worse.

Good luck and remember just have fun.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

You can quite easily play both. Many here on Dakka have 2 or more armies (some of us have a great many armies). This is a long-term hobby, you can have as many armies as you want. Just know that it's expensive to try and expand on more than one army at a time.

Guard certainly do have more options, just some of them really aren't that good. You could try to make a tech-guard themed force I suppose

Do not make the mistake I made of sticking with Chaos Space Marines. I let the thought of sunken cost affect my decisions. If you are not satisfied with an army then do try another one.
