So from the Summer towards the end of last year, approaching the release of the Force Awakens and the new Battlefront game, I was getting really hyped for the revival of Star Wars as a big deal once again in popular culture. I didn't expect to care about it this much: I haven't had much to do with Star Wars since Revenge of the Sith came out. It's cliche, but the nostalgia was too great and considering Star Wars formed a big part of my entire childhood, one often finds themselves grasping at what they can at an age when you arrive in adulthood. In 19 now and it was great to give Star Wars a revisit as a nod to the good old days.
So great was the nostalgia of seeing the figures on the shelves again, or even being able to buy merch from bloody Tesco's express once again, last November I found myself climbing into a shelf at Hamley's to rifle through all the micro-machines packs until I found one with a good balance of ships whilst a young excited toddler and his dad actually had to wait for me, shoulder-deep in the shelf. Of course I was planning to paint up these bad boys. I was already eyeing up the
FF Imperial Assault minis and planning to grab a couple around Christmas alongside my purchase of a PS4 and Battlefront, so to start early I thought I'd grab a box of these micro-machines. Looking at online comparisons they're the same size roughly as the X-Wing game minis but not quite as intricate, but
tbh after painting them up nicley you really wouldn't know they were rubbery plastic kids' toys. There was a lot more detail than irst met the eye once the flat plastic was painted over and plenty of drybrushing was applied.
Then it got down to the Imperial Assault Miniatures. I wasn't interested in buying the whole game, only the minis, so I picked up a squad of 3 stormtroopers and 3 rebels. To bulk them out I also gambled on some WotC Star Wars Miniatures. The R4 Astromech droid and the Scout Trooper were great for detail and scaled perfectly to match the
IA minis, even if the Scout Trooper was bendy asf. The Rebel with rocket launcher however was a different story. Because Star Wars Minis ran for a long time over several series of releases, they really vary in scale, material, and detail. This rebel now looks like some kind of coerced ISIS child given a rocket launcher alongside his larger brothers. I placed him on a cork base to draw less emphasis to his diminished height but its still obvious he's not to the correct scale. Nevermind.
I painted the stormtroopers using this guide:

I stuck them on 30mm bases and used selective application of gloss varnish to emphasise the shiny armour, or helmets incase of the rebels.
I do plan to expand these guys, especially the squads, but I gotta get back to Warhammer Quest which I have as a P&M blog on here.
