OK I"m not Leonardo Da Vinci, but you get the idea These designs (2 & 4) are heavily influenced by youtube. Does anyone know what designs work well?
I was thinking of building version 4 out of a scrap of wood, 2 rulers and a large straightened paper clip. I picked a motor from ebay, but I'm not sure how it'll go. Might need to tweak the voltage. Am concerned it'll shake itself to bits...

You are WAAAAAAY overthinking this.

I bought a $20 piece of crap jigsaw from bunnings, and a $3 clamp.

I ground down the clamp so it fits in the jigsaw like a blade.

Boom, redneck paintshaker.

Looks like this, I will take a pic tonight for you though;

Wow, props to you... But are you trying to solve a problem that doesn't really exist? Could you just shake the paint pots the old fashioned way... with your arm? I'm not sure if your designs would get the same momentum or speed as your arm anyway.

Or do what kb_lock says haha.

Have you painted 10 colours in a session before? Any of those colours white? I have paints that you need to shake for a good 2 minutes to properly get together, and VIGOROUSLY shake. I can do the same in about 20 seconds on the jigsaw.

Props accepted No, the problem doesn't exist but why not? I don't personally like shaking pots. And if I have a machine, it'll sit and shake them for 5 minutes and do a very thorough job - I find with the metallics after 5 minutes I notice the pot isn't as well mixed as I thought it was. I think design 4 will have plently of momentum if the "arm" part connected to the motor's wheel is long. It'll have enough momentum to launch the paint if it isn't secured well

Thats perfect! Looking forward to your pic so I can understand how you've used the clamp. Thanks!

Fair enough

If you're going to go down the power tool route, consider an orbital sander. You can get one for $25 from Bunnings. You could probably put the paints in some kind of plastic container and affix it somehow to the bottom of the sander.

There wasn't much to it really, just had to grind it a bit so it fit - I am actually kinda scared to take it apart

a) I'm too lazy to clean it b) I think it would be a waste of paint.

Yes like that, but I didn't use one of those Irwin ones, I used a smaller cheaper brand.

I only did this like 6 months ago, all of it is still for sale at bunnings. I think it is an X20 jigsaw, and a crafttech clamp

A very big thank you to kb_lock, because after his advice this is what I came up with. Unfortunately the clamp was too thick to insert, so I had to super glue, cloth tape and zip tie it onto the saw blade. Not the best solution, but I got away with it. Think it'll be OK if I'm careful.

I made one out of lego but it was noisy as hell:

I did consider a lego one, but it was like $1000 in lego. Then again, when you apparently burn lego for sport, well crikey.

10/10 DrDr224 - that is actually the same parts I am using I believe - it was XU1, not X20 for the jigsaw at least, and orange clamps.

Pics in ~3 hours, might even put a proper assembly diagram up.

I think your saw might be a little better than mine because mine is a fixed speed so I run it in very short bursts.
