So, I picked up and read this game a few months back and it looked like what I was wanting for a lite, 28mm scale WW2 game. I finally read the rules and got together a starting force to play. With some (hard) prodding, I roped my eldest son (age 14) into being my opponent.
I've watched two game demos, and played my first game against my son last night. It was kind of close, I probably would have won if I hadn't given him a half-track (my first panzerfaust shot missed, second squad w/ panzerfaust got pinned making a dash for cover and got creamed).
Though the game was rather small (3 ten-man squads apiece), I'm interested to see how others are enjoying/using the game.
I'm a bit concerned how effective pinning is - I like it, but it seems it can be manipulated a little too easily (the -1 to hit per pin seems a little too good), and favors running multiple small units (MSU) instead of large groups that can drop a lot of fire on a target.
Also, my son expressed concern that there seemed to be a lack of variety to the game (units?), but I think that is likely a prejudice coming from 40K and that he likes the "fantasy" aspect. Does the game play better adding various other units (mortars, snipers, etc.) or would looking at different armies possibly be something to consider (I'm just interested in running a german Panzergrenadier force, I had the Americans so I had something to play/practice against).
