First off, From MOD Manchu.

Yeah you can post a thread on that if you like, just keep it "professional." I don't know that we have specific section for it so maybe Dakka Discussions?

I recently sold an 8th edition warhammer fantasy rulebook Brand new on EBAY. The User ID asqlep paid immediately and the book was sent out in NEW condition still in shrink wrap. After a few days of having the book ASQLEP informed EBAY that he wanted to return the item because it wasn't in Brand new condition and he won his appeal because I was offline for about a week or two while in the process of moving. So EBAY had him ship the item back and gave him a full refund for the item.

When the rulebook got back to me the shrink wrap had been completely torn off one end of the book, the book had been removed from the shrink wrap at some point (spine was bent) and you can clearly see he opened the book up. My guess is that he received the book, opened it, photo copied it and then shipped it back.

So as a heads up, watch out for this guy, he is not an honest buyer.

Leave a review. Also, contact eBay, as this is obviously bad. Do you have pictures pre and post shipping?

I have already filed a report against the user, I am not allowed to leave a review for some reason and I have contacted EBAY

Guess what EBAY said?
"Sorry we can't help you because it is your word versus his. Ohh! you have pictures of the item before and after it was sent? Wonderful, to bad we don't care. (Insert lamentations and excuses followed by stating policy)"
And then they very politely told me to go feth myself.

That's frustrating. I've never had anyone go that far. Every now and then I'll sell a boardgame and a week or so after delivery the buyer will send an e-mail with a thinly veiled threat to give some money back or they're going to open a case.

Ebay offers very little protection to the seller. I got stung before in a similar fashion for a few hundred quid plus the item, and made sure it wouldn't happen again. As a result, I always use a burner Paypal linked to a savings account with nothing kept in it but my ebay fees (I transfer the money out to an main account as soon as I get it and the bank has instructions not to allow direct debits to that account). If there's a genuine problem, I can always transfer money back after all, and will always give a refund for a legitimate problem. But as Ebay offers absolutely no protection to you as a seller, it is sensible to take basic steps with any sale of any real value (£20+) to ensure that unscrupulous scammers can't take advantage of you.

Sorry to hear this.

But if you bought something and had a complaint, you'd be annoyed if they didn't get back to you for a week or two, wouldn't you? If you'd responded in a reasonable time, this might not have happened. eBay are very inflexible, and if you don't put your case when requested, you will hamper yourself.

very true, unfortunately I was in the process of moving so no internet access. And I had better things to do with my time then going to a library to check on EBAY. Needless to say PCS moves are a massive pain in the you know what.

Instead of a working balance, for some reason eBay has shifted policies the last few years to heavily favor buyers over sellers. It has driven a lot of the small sellers like myself away from them, as the system totally favors the big guys who can afford some 'jerk' clients here and there. Where even one bad transaction is a big deal to me...

Given what I have seem and heard from others, it is quite likely eBay would have sided with your buyer anyway, even with a timely response and pictures. Caveat eBay!

That sucks man, Thanks for the heads up. It seems like you've been stuck with someone on eBays end that sees it as "well the case is closed now so why even bother complaining".
How did you contact eBay about reporting him? It may be worth trying another method like phoning or there chat pop up just to see if you get a different person. From my experience in retail it's always worth trying again just because people genuinely (unfortunately) don't care about anyone else's problems, that being said there is always someone working for a company that will do their job competently.

If Ebay doesnt do anything and you are thirsty for revenge, check to see if he is selling anything cheap, buy it, then leave negative feedback, rinse and repeat ;p.

Thanks for supplying the name, i will add him to my block list.

The other way to handle it is to report it as copyright theft (or whatever the official legal term is).
IF it was scanned, it'll come under certain laws, and GW will be quite happy to hear about it.

1.) How would he prove the guy scanned it?
2.) Since he can't prove the guy scanned it, what do you think GW can/will do?

While I sympathize, if you're going to do business in ANY setting, you need to be available for customer service.

You knew you were going to be offline ahead of time. Would it have killed you to wait until you were going to be on-line to put the item up for sale?

To be honest bro, as an eBayer myself - I find it VERY difficult to believe you weren't aware of it, considering EVERYTHING from PayPal and eBay get sent to your email address as a redundancy alongside your accounts on their sites.

So even if you didn't have your desktop, what about a laptop? You don't have a modern cell phone that can get email/internet/the eBay and PayPal app? For you to assert you did not have internet access for ~ 2 weeks is literally unbelievable in modernity. Let's say for argument what I just mentioned did somehow apply to you, then you have quite clearly set yourself up for failure/trouble as a PRIVATE SELLER. You have not performed your due diligence as a vendor, and now you have been burned because of it.

There are like five things YOU had to have not done, to not know what was going on. There's more to this.

You can't blame no internet these days, its called wifi, and you can have ebay app on your phone, even if you don't have one, you can check emails at just about any retail place.

You can set it so item is used and shown in pic, also have no returns excepted. But I sold 100+ things and never really had a problem. But I stay in Canada....well I had one problem when I sent to the states.

The guy said the item was 3 days late and wanted a refund. After showing ebay the tracking and such was delivered but not signed they gave him a refund and he kept the item. But paypal had his email adress. So i sent him a pic of his house, hours when he is at work some pics and info on his wife and known relatives and he sent the money back and said sorry :-).

It is amazing what info you can find on people with facebook house adress ect lol.

ya i am probly not the most sane person in the world I will admit. Couple years ago I went to a wildlife park and had a cooler with some milk It was just a 710 mil for my kids bottle. Somebody ran by grabbed the milk and bolted I chased him for like 8 minutes beat him up and recieved funds from him to purchase more milk... Sounds better. Seemed fair to me.

Thats why I always tell everyone careful what you do you never know what type of person they are.

Yup. This thread has indeed shown us what you can find under a stone.

BTW previous advice about negative feedback under positive heading is also complete BS - it's against eBay rules and will get pulled.

Why not? They guy's a stupid crook, and there's no other justice. If it's all "public" information, that's on the crook. It's just business.

Both statements are rubbish.

For the sake of clarity, the first statement is rubbish because we only have an assertion someone was ripped off. The OP has a sense of grievance - yet he couldn't be bothered to check his phone for, what, two weeks, having arranged an auction when he knew he'd be moving. How do we know your thug isn't completely wrong, in the same way? and even if he is wrong, is violence an acceptable solution? Do you take your business ethics from the mafia?

Re the second statement, here's details of the eBay policy, for those incapable of Googling:

What violence? He only shared public information back. I am sure there were no threats made.

And again, policy or not, I have seen negative positive feedback.

Even if no threat was directly made, it was heavily implied. About as heavy handed as the Italian Mob.

Yeah I'm pretty sure even if I rip someone off, if they start sending me pictures of my home and info on my loved ones, I'm not sending them money, I'm filing paperwork with the police. Even though odds are they may not do anything if I have all this information available to the public via my facebook or whatever. That's pretty borderline threatening, and very much cyberstalking, actionable or not (I have no idea)

That's not a threat.

OTOH, if he wrote "nice house, it'd be a shame if it were to burn down" and "nice familiy, it'd be a shame if they were do disappear", that would be different.

And even then, it'd just be an observation that the buyer had a nice house and a nice family.

That's exactly the same.

It would be a shame if someone's home burned down. Any threat is implied.

Exactly like a stranger sending you pictures of your home, there's no overt threat in that, it is entirely implied.

But then, you already understand that, don't you?

It's implied threats. What else was the purpose of sending the images and data? What point is he trying to get across other than "I know where you live, I know your schedule." What would those statements imply other than "I better get my money back" with a further implied "or else"?
