Black Templar Recruit Undergoing Surgeries

G'day guys! Was going to ask on Warseer, but its too damn quiet and people hardly respond. I'm doing a Space Marine Bust at the moment and not sure how to go about a certian stage with Gold.
So I ended up applying a nice layer of Vallejo's Old Gold, then followed by Agrax Earth shade in the Recesses then watered down Druchii Violet. After that, I attempted to highlight the tips with Vallejos Air Chrome. Bad MOVE! My heart stopped! lol
Looks very bad that I had rushed and got some WINDEX and a hardish brush and then got rid of the Chrome.
So my question is and does anybody know any good techniques to do damaged gold? I did think about lightly sponging the Chrome onto the Eagle?
I will post pictures when I get back from work
Regards, Brad.

I'd be tempted to use something like necron compound, it was my plan for the lorgar I'm working on anyway

use any light silver metallic, but layer up to it..so mix it into your gold, using increasing amounts each layer. thish will give a smoother transition.

I'd assume it looks bad because your gold is going to be quite dark after the brown and purple washes. Did you relayer the Vallejo Old Gold on prior to the chrome highlight? Also maybe try the Vallejo Air Aluminium, it might be a bit less reflective.
As for battle damaged gold, I guess it depends on what damage are you going for. I'd be sticking to the old black and white line under the damage to create a 3d effect.

I love the vallejo golds that's all I use now. Also I'm not a fan of the GW technique of edging with silver straight over your gold. I did a huge gold experiment with several tests on my blog if you're interested.
My final highlight is vmc gold mixed with a little silver, but usually I build gradually to it.
As for chipping, yeah you can use a dark color like an umber mixed with purple and silver using a sponge, then catch just a few spots underneath with your highlight color or straight silver.

So. I ended up getting home from work and trying the unthinkable and attempted to sponge lightly the new Necron Dry brush paint. And that worked very very well. Was just the right Brightness that I was going for.
On note With the Purple I thinned it right down and just did it in the crevasses of the eagle. I then followed by a thinned mixture of Agrax,Nulin,Violet. Once that is done over that is where I used the sponging effect of Necron, Vallejo Model GOLD and Typhus.
I then added the Typhus Corrosion as a Sponge effect all over the bust and lightly on the helmet. Unfortunately for my pathetic Photo positioning/lighting skills you cant really get the feel for the model effect through the lens, but I hope you can sort of tell by these images.
Thinking of adding some MIG Pigments to the dirty areas I did. What you think?
I have got a long way to go in regards to finishing, but I have to take my time with this kit as there is a lot of cutting and modifying -_-

Just my opinion here, the helmet is tremendous, the skull also excellent, and the backpack I love too, but the 'gold' is really bronze, and for a model that size it seems a little flat (lacking contrast). Could just be the pictures though.
Were you going for bronze as final result? I know old gold has that almost green gold that is a good finishing color. It thins well with just water for gradual highlights.

To be honest with you mate, I think I was going for a "gold" look, but I originally applied the famous Agrax and then hit it with Matt Spray -_-. The whole Damage theme I just did out of the fluke and turned out awesome I reckon. But I haven't got a good lighting area so that is something I may have to work on. I will take a picture in the natural light give me a second!
This was the best I could do in the time that I have sorry mate.
You can see at the bottom the x3 tubes the connections are a Copper/Bronze Colour (Vellejo Liquid Copper). I really dont want to strip ths back mate, come way to far lol.
Also Would you reckon it would be a good idea to add some MIG Pigment? I feel as if the Typhus Corrosion isnt really showing too well. Might be because of the Black?

For the record I was never suggesting you should strip it hah, but you can always add more highlights; anyway yeah it looks way better in the new picture.
Typhus Corrosion is great but I think it's really intended to be used with the 'dry' rust paint, which you would drybrush on after the former has dried.
