I'd suggest an orange glaze over the top to add a little bit of a gradient across the yellow, making it slightly darker on the lower portions than the upper ones. As well a yellow (or even just that orange) glaze over the very pale line highlights will help make those highlights stay lighter, but more yellow. That will help them blend in a little more and maybe on the very tips you could add another touch of that pale yellow as an extreme highlight.
I don't have a good example on hand but I do have this WIP:
Around the chest/upper half you can see the glaze fading back the light blue highlights and on the legs I've then touched up the highlights with an almost white over the top of that.

It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that. |

Thanks for the tips, still getting to grips with using the yellow and getting an even coat. Done a couple more of the templar brethren and once this squad is done might do a standard imperial fist so i've got larger areas to try some techniques on.
Anyway let me know what you think of the two new additions!

Very nice. While I'm not usually a fan of Red on Imperial Fists, these look nice and not so overbearing as it normally can for me.

My first Cataphractii
Think the yellow came out well but it's a nightmare to keep even, my next few will be using my brand new airbrush hopefully that will help get the coverage even more even!
Let me know what you guys think and any help with yellow would be great

Thanks!
Most of my models are always pretty clean looking it's just a look I like but in regards to the weathering it's always something I'm in two minds about
I might try it on my contemptor when I get around to him

Quick update, thought i might as well upload one of my favourite characters from the heresy. First marshal of the Black Templars Sigismund.
I did him in the Black just because then I could use him as a 40k chapter master or as himself in 30k
Anyway let me know your thoughts!

Thanks for the nice words!
Probably the last photo of single minis now (except vehicles and characters) but here is my first tactical legionaire using an airbrush to help base him, was a bit of a learning curve but i'm sure the more i use it the better i'll become at getting that coat even as possible.
Let me know what you think!

Haha thanks it is true that the plastic contemptor is terrible compared to its resin counterparts but it gave me opportunity to practice yellow on larger surface areas without ruining a (much more) expensive model!

I think you should add something the your dreadnought's base, like a rock or I don't know.
How did you make the sand on your bases ?

I have a second plastic one unassembled I plan on giving it two assault cannons as I have a spare but that's the limit of my converting abilities unfortunately :(
The base is just Armageddon dust texture with a liberal wash of agrax earthshade and a drybrush of karak stone
I agree about adding something to the base I just need to figure out what!
Thanks for the suggestions!

One thing I can HUGELY advise...is to cut out the head and replace it on the Contemptor. It's one of the very weakest parts of the model.
I replaced mine with some VOTOMs bits etc. Heck, stuff another space marine helmet in there or something --- the one provided is easily cut out and removed. Add some plasticard to the cover the slots.

I like the ones with the large face guards, kinda of knight-looking. Might be a good fit. Add some cables/wires/bolts in the dead space or something.
Maybe look for some dreadnought heads on ebay? I don't know if they'll fit well.

Those all look great. Yellow is a tough color to paint and you are making it look easy. I'm not sure it would be the best color for an army in the real world, but they sure have a unique look. About the only place they could hide would be my Mother's kitchen. (She likes yellow, and everything in her kitchen is about that color!)
Again, great job of making the hardest color out there look really nice. Have fun with the airbrush too. They are a blast to paint with, once you learn them.

Thanks for all the nice comments, in regards to the yellow no it would not help you camoflage but thats the thing about space marines, they shall know no fear and all :p
Here is a shot of the army so far, I think i'm making some good progress, still got 28 tacticals, one more contemptor, a deredeo, 4 cataphractii, 2 apothecaries, alexis polux and if i have time and buy one a sicarian. Oh and a castellun stronghold tileboard before October ... i got time i think.
