Subject: bringing vehicle damage resolution/stat line in line with the rest of the game.

Just some thoughts i had.
What if we converted all vehicles to have a toughness and saves to bring their damage resolution more in line with the rest of the game. I figure it could go like this.
Toughness would be based on the vehicles highest armor value.
10 armor - 6 t
11- 7
12- 8
13- 9
14- 10
Armor saves would be based on actual armor values.
14 - 2+
12/13 - 3+
11/10 - 4+
So a land raider would be a t10 2+ all sides vehicle. High str high ap weapons would become the vehicle killers. Some of the lighter vehicles would become susceptible to small arms fire especially mass shooting. Sounds acurate. Some of the bigger vehicles would gain some survivability they would not otherwise have from high t and a save.
Penetrating hits would work the same. If you would wound on a 3 and you roll a 3 its a glance. If you would would on a 3 and you roll a 4+ its a pen.
Livewire or whatever the the shock things are calldd could be a ap2 roll on table.
Thoughts?

What are you doing with things like haywire, lance, poison, melta, tank hunter and so on?

Similar to something I am doing (I'm dropping the damage table in my iteration).
You could sort of go in the other direction. Add 4 to the Toughness stat of all non-vehicles and make everything a "Penetration" roll.
I.E., a marine would have a revised Toughness of 8. When hit with a bolter (STR 4), you would roll D6+4, attempting to match or beat the 8 to wound the marine.
Armor rolls would be like what you have listed.

How do you deal with mixxed armor values. E.g. a lemon russ being just as tough as a land raider.

A thought on that:
Weak Facing (Facing, X): Attacks against the vehicle's weak facing are resolved with -X to the toughness value.

I figured toughness would be a flat value. A tanks a tank. But the saves would still be facing based. So attack the leman on the weak facing and lower ap weapons can ignore the save. Automatically Appended Next Post: I will be responding to the special rules. Just wanna get to my book so i dont mix anything up. Automatically Appended Next Post: Vehicles would still have hull points, not wounds. So poison would continue to not effect them. Also poisoned specifically states it has not effect on vehicles. The units classification does not change.
Haywire would act normally. When rolling to wound against a vehicle you roll on the chart. 1 nothing, 2-5 strip 1 hp, 6 pen. Rolling on the chart is ap2. No armor saves allowed.
Lance would do what it does now. Make it count as armor value 12. Or under these rules t8. Example: normally a str 10 shot at a av 14 vehicle requires 4 to glance 5+ pen. Against t10 it is the same. With a lance it would wound on 2+. If it was say... the nid lance power that would be str 10 ap2 ignoring the save glancing on a 2 and pen on a 3. Not actually any different then it is right now with armor.
The big differenece is the slight variance of weapon strengths that CAN wound with the addition of an armor save to supplement the vehicles toughness.
Melta, cut toughness in half. A t10 is considered a t5 vs a melta.
No change to tank hunter at all. Reroll to wound vs vehicles can choose to reroll a glance to attempt to pen.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also this gives what used to be garanteed hits a chance to fail. A str 10 shot agaisnt av 10 always penetrated. When its based on the str vs t chart a 1 is always a fail, a 2 is at best a glance and 3 is the bare minimum for a pen.
Just to note how this can give even lighter vehicles a small boost they sorely need.
