Getting back into 40k, haven't played since 6th ed. I signed up for a local narrative campaign, 1k points sometimes teamed up for 2v2s.
I've got a fairly solid idea of what I want to run, but two revisions of it. One has a land raider and I'm not sure if thats too beardy at 1k points.

Version 1:
Librarian on foot, force axe, lvl 2

10 man Tactical squad, ML w/Flakk, plasma gun, combi-melta

5 man tactical squad, plasma gun, combi-melta

5 man devastator squad, 3 plasma cannons

5 deathwing knights

Land Raider

Version 2:

Everything the same except swap the land raider for:
5 man ravenwing command squad, champion, apothecary
and
1 more plasma cannon in devastator squad

Which list do you like better?

The first is simple. It telegraphs its big punch, drives it forward and tries to land it. Meanwhile the plasma cannons will attempt to clear the other half of the board from afar. I'm afraid a land raider in 1k points is a bit much though and might get me grief since it's supposed to be casual. Plus i haven't met most of these people so I don't want to be that guy.

The second has more bodies and puts some ravenwing on the field for fluffiness. The knights can drop in near them, and the combo could prove fun. Jink might be overpowered on them, but i imagine there will be ignores cover to counter them.

A land raider would be perfectly fine its not like ur taking 4 of them. And most well prepared opponents will have some anti tank if not then that's their problem

I'm not sure narratively what the missions are, but might I suggest 1) some rhinos so the tac squads are a bit more mobile and 2) less plasma (I see a few guys dying from Gets Hot!).
I don't play Marines, but I fought against them almost exclusively. Rhinos can easily be a thorn in your side at 1000 points and I think they only cost like 35 points and in almost every game(against someone w/ plasma) I've seen a marine die from his own plasma gun.

Out of the two I'd go with the second, I've seen what the Ravenwing bikes can do and 2+ rerollable jink (IIRC) can be a pain to deal with.

WAAAGH!!!

Second army is much better. No point taking a Land Raider unless it's full of Deathwing Knights, but you don't want them in a 1000 point game because that's be half your army!

Mobility is critical in 7th Edition. Tactical Squads require transports to reach their potential.

I only own one rhino, so I suppose I'll have to paint it up.
As for the plasma, what else would you use? Melta seems so situational, and flamers not powerful enough. Plus it's dark angels!

The plasma devs are very feast or famine. I feel like they can blow up anything, or themselves, at a moment's notice

I agree that the second option is better.

I recommend adding additional mobility via rhinos or pods to your infantry too.

I've been using 5 man dev squads with two grav cannons in a rhino; lets them absorb a lot of potential damage and as it has access points, the two weapons can fire at 24" with max salvo shots if rhino remains stationary.

An anti-tank gear option could be to add grav guns/melta to your rw unit; with relentless, it will extend their range to fire & max salvo shots.

Also, consider giving your Lib either terminator armor or a bike to plug into either wing squad. Hope this helps!
