life.

Gw sacked the tomb kings line. I have tomb Kings shields. I need more shields. Because there is no other option (except eBay which is prohibitively expensive.) Can I cast up copies of the shields for personal use?

I collect:

Grand alliance death (whole alliance)

Stormcast eternals

Slaves to Darkness - currently Nurgle but may expand to undivided.

If its for your own use, you are fine.

Selling them would be crossing the line legally speaking.

Make the shields you need and you wont be in any danger. However if you start mass producing them well then its a different ballgame so to say

No, it is absolutely not "fine" to recast someone else's work, personal use or not. It's still illegal recasting even if you never sell the recasts. The only difference is that small-scale recasting for personal use is never going to get the attention of the IP owner's lawyers so there are unlikely to ever be any consequences for doing it. If "it's illegal, but you can probably get away with it" is satisfying as an answer then go ahead and recast stuff. But please don't spread the myth that it's ok as long as you don't sell the recasts.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Legally speaking by recasting your making copies is devaluing a copyrighted material, so from my understanding of the law, it's not legal. You can't claim fair use if it's devaluing the market for that item.

Morally speaking I couldn't care less if someone wants to recast OOP models for personal use, the law protects reproduction rights of the original creator but IMO once the original creator stops producing it so you can no longer buy it, feth 'em

Everything has been covered here, and I'm going to lock this up so we don't stray into "out of bounds" areas for Dakka...
