Maybe I missed it in the book, but I can't find it online. Exactly how tall is an Imperial Knight suppose to be? How much are they suppose to weigh? I know that there are going to be difference amount the different types of Knights, but I'm just asking about the average. I know that they are smaller than scout Titans, but; that leave a lot of space that they can fill. Are Knights 20 meters? 60 feet? 10 meters? Just how high above the battle ground to these giants of war lumber?

For that matter, how do they deploy to the battle field? Do they get dropped from orbit? Are there specially designed transport which ferry them from shop to shore? Is there some combination where a transport takes them part of the way and then they jump the rest?
How do they get back up into orbit?

The things my mind gets stuck on.

The height of an Imperial Knight is dependent on its class and armament. The most common knight paladin, from the plastic kit, is about 32 feet or 10m. That's a 3 floor building. In a modern day context it'd walk between or through modern homes with the top half of its body and its weapons tracking targets across roof lines. The FW made Knight Cerastus are just shy of the height of a Warhound titan which are 40ft tall... say about 35-38ft for those.

One of the more recent video games portrays them as being "dropped" but I don't believe that's right or appropriate. Standard Imperial transports that land Imperial Guard onto planets have been shown in artwork and have been portrayed as being very large to the point that it's unlikely that transports would require anything more than to additionally carry the maintenance equipment and support teams that keep Knights operating and repaired between battles.

As stated above, Knights are at the 10m/33ft height implied by the model, probably netting in 60-80 tonne range (not including ammo). We know they are deployed by ship to ground cargo landers, and tend to redeploy by foot or lander as needed. Due to the small amount of onboard ammo bunkerage, most Knights cannot range far from support depots, which does limit their opperational range. Technically, the best varisnt to field in an extended campaign is the Errant with hull mounted melta, or the Lancer with its plasma lance, as those have the lowest need for resupply. From a logistics stand point, Knights are awesome looking hanger queens. Still love them, though. BattleTech Forever!

Yeah, but one ton of ammo will last forever. It’s more dangerous to you due to ammo explosion results then any potential damage to the enemy.

So Battletech size.

I wondered if GW copied that or not. Can't remember who came out first with the giant robots between the two.

I imagine a stubber is basically equal to an M2 (fires 50 cal bullets) and that the danger to the IK pilot would be minimal to non-existent if that sort of ammo cooked off.

Sorry, that was a cross-game joke.

In Battletech, if you took a critical hit to ammunition, it fired off and did all the damage that it would have done if fired, in one lump, to the mech. Machine guns did 2 points a shot, and IIRC you got 50 shots for one ton of ammo. So if it got crit, you ate a bazilion points of damage. More then some light/medium mechs had on their entire damage tracks. All for a gun that was almost never fired, due to it’s point blank range.

You have never played Battletech have you? Trust me, you want to have C.A.S.E.'d that ammo (or better yet, C.A.S.E 2) or you are going to regret it.....

Actually I did stat some of the knights for Battletech, anyone interested?

C.A.S.E.? That new fangled stuff? Back in my day we blew our torsos open with ammo explosions and liked it! Kids these days with their “technology” and “options”.

If they're deployed like titans than they use titan drop pods. Unlike marines, however, they do not drop into battle. They just drop down for time saving reasons.

When they are finished with the fighting they are surrounded with scaffolding and a new pod is built around them. The new pod is dragged via kilometers long chains back up to the ships.

I believe it's covered pretty well in the Dan Abnett novel "Titanicus".

I use to run my 86 epic scale Knights as BattleMechs back in the day. Had multiple lances of Paladins, Errants, Lancers, Castilians, Crusaders, and a single Baron. Had loads of fun, and my friends liked the different look so it went over well. That was almost 20 years ago, though.

With the new 40k scale Knights, all I want to do is play 40k scale BattleTech!

I wanted to make the Stormsurge and convert it into a Catapult type design from Battletech. Dang the map would be huge though if paying Battletech with them.
