I'm going to try my hand at creating a new KSons Legion and I've got two test models. The one on the left was primed with a candy apple red metallic primer, and the other one was primed with Khorne Red. What do you guys think is better?

The colour gradient on the left looks better. Are they both just spray red? To be honest the left one looks like it has been shaded?

They both got shaded but I used a darker tone on the left one. It's the Army Painter Strong Tone ink wash on the left, on the right was the Army Painter Red Tone.

I might just pick up the whole can of Strong Tone and dip the whole army that way.

I think the strong tone and metallic red combo well!

+1 on the model on the left, currently working on Thousand Sons here, metallic red/gold looks way better than flat red/gold.

Have discovered, thanks to eldest offspring wandering past and muttering 'jungle bells' when she saw them they need the shading to avoid looking like christmas baubles, that shading seems to have done it (mine not got that far).

Looks good though

I like the one on the left more, but here's some suggestions...

I think you can do the shade a bit cleaner (focus on getting it in to the crevices and not letting it settle on the raised areas, make sure you manipulate the wash while wet, don't let the wash partially dry and then try to manipulate it because it'll leave smudgy tide marks).

You might also consider using a shade that doesn't have a matte finish, or finishing the model off with a satin varnish. The metallic red is naturally shiny and the matte wash is dulling it down but not consistently.

What spray did you use for the metallic red? If it isn't too opaque, you might be able to primer it white and shade it with a black gloss wash as a preshade, then spray the metallic red, it'll give it more depth.

EDIT: Also you probably shouldn't have your name and address in the background of a picture you're posting on the internet
