Overall, I am happy with how these guys turned out. I don't think they are as good as my wrath mongers but those models are great too. Still I like these but want to improve. My camera doesn't take the color correctly so I'm trying to learn how to light and photo properly.

please criticize what is lacking, things I am aware of:

Lack of super fine details (where and how to add?)

Lack of many colors (acceptable for these models maybe? - fits with army theme at least)

Metal is on too thick? And lacks highlights? Should I be layering over this washed Balthasar gold or leaving it worn looking?

Sorry but those dedicated to helping please follow link for now. Will try host proper pics within the next few days and include to post

I think they look pretty good, myself. I'm not sure of any additional details you could add. Some of the metallics could be edge-highlighted perhaps, but I don't think it's absolutely necessary. Personally I'd be proud to own models that look that good.

I... actually don't know. Help?

They look great! I'd recommend some more shading, maybe a bit of Agrax in the recesses? And some highlights on the metal would be cool.

Thanks for the advice and kind words, I am proud and happy with them, and I am 100% sure you can paint like them as well, I just took my time to make sure there were no mistakes, like bronze crossing into red, and corrected them. I will add highlights and washes or other weathering in time and hope to keep progressing.

They look pretty good. A tad glossy IMO but that may just be the light. Either way I'd invest in a matte varnish. It protects the minis too so it wouldn't hurt.

Also I'd definitely run another wash over some areas. That Khorne Berzerker's glove for example really needs it.

They look good. One place of detail that you already do is picking out the bolts on the armor with silver.

Things you COULD do if desired, but don't need to:

*Paint the joints (the ridges on the arm where the elbow or knee bends, as well as where the leg/arm joins the body) a different color.(some you do this on, some you don't)
*Do edge highlights (metals, reds, and on the weapons). For a subtle effect just do one shade lighter for the highlights.
*Shade more recesses. Many are already shaded, but there are some that aren't.

For another perspective: If I was to see the lot on ebay and wanted to buy chaos models, the only thing that I'd really be concerned with is getting all the joints painted if they aren't (which I would do myself when they came in if nothing else). I'd be perfectly happy otherwise.

Building a KDK of my own currently as well. Just posted a pic of my Chaos Lord a few days ago actually. These look really good already. There's not really much to add that hasn't been said by Troa and the rest. Mainly just the accents and stuff like water decals or hand painted symbols and whatnot. Could always mess with the bases a bit more as well. However, again these look great as is! I'd proudly field those guys in my army.

I really like them, particularly the berzerkers and I'm not sure why. The standard is the same as the chaos marines so I think it must just be the paint scheme suiting the berzerker models better. Who knows? I'd suggest a different colour for the hair on that chaos marine with the red/orange thing going on. I'd paint those hair parts dark grey/black so they no longer clash with the armour but also don't stand out either. That's just me. Not keen on the shiny finish either- I've heard a matt varnish over the top can get rid of that but I've never had to test it myself

Otherwise I like what you've done. I don't bother edge highlighting much either, I find it extremely time consuming for (often) little improvement to the overall appearance of a unit

The easiest way is to use dark tone from the Army Painter where you more or less drowns model .. then increases the load on the same basis nyanas you had before remember to use brown shade / ink to the gold / bronze and dark / black shade / ink to what is the metal armor and a base

simple test then feel if you want them

I made these for my kid in a very short time

I like adding a red glaze over the skin of my khornates, it just gives them something extra i feel (However armour is not red from head to toe) the contrast works well

thanks for the good advice everyone, and i think i figured out what is giving some of them too much shine. i used liquitex satin varnish to seal them and the bottle says stir gently but don't shake. when i brushed on the matte, at first it went on very gloss (like parts of these ones). after a good shake it gave the proper finish. i am fairly sure if i shake the satin well it will apply a finish correctly. am a bit worried about building up too much varnish, and refinishing any that ends up on the base, as they look decent if a bit shiny on some models in parts for now, but will probably go for it after i confirm the finish is correct on my next seal.

These models are at a high level of tabletop quality, but if you really want them to to be even better or are just looking to make your commander to stand out, this is what I would do:
1. I would shade them. As far as shading goes I have personaly had most success with wet blending, but you can use other techniques such as two brush blending (if you go for the wet blending get some retardant, it makes the proces more forgivable)
2. Add some scratches. Just paint a random pattern in black or brown and then add a highlight underneath it thus creating the ilusion of a paint chip. You could probbably find a better guide than this post online though.
3. One thing that could fix your lack of colour on the model is to base your model in a contrasting colour. This could be tricky since your models are red.
