Hi all.

As part of my return to 40k, I am working on a Space Marine army. I am torn between 2 colour schemes however - yellow or white / gray.

I have done a couple of test models using some old grey hunters before I decide, however I like them both.

Opinions would be welcome. This is my first real attempt ro paint compared to the thick and crusted paint I used to do as as child so don't expect much lol.

Either way you're a glutton for punishment. I shall think of you when you are no longer with us.

I dont understand?

If its the painting quality, as said, its certainly nothing special and the more I do, hopefully the better I become. I just dont want to get that far down in my first army and then say "I think I preferred the other colour"

Oh and the plan is to do my own Chapter. Im leaning towards Imperial Fists in terms of tactics, but this way I can swap around for some variety without triggering my WYSIWYG obsession by committing to one of them via colour scheme

White and Yellow are notoriously difficult to paint. If you can't decide, I'd definitely wait until inspiration hits you. I personally love white (look at my avatar...I put white on Maugan Ra for crying out loud...).

However, in a Marine force with little opportunity for colour, I think yellow would be a more striking force.

Ah. Thanks Elbows. If anything, I found the white easier to do than any of the others I attempted. The yellow is very striking, and while I continue to stare at them to make a decision, its the one that catches my eye but the white looks a lot crisper when my eyes adjust after the briggtness of the yellow.

If it helps, i also plan to weather the armour once I have a clean base to paint on.

Have you considered a mix? White marines with say yellow/black shoulder pads, or something like that? White is one of my favourites but I think it needs a colour to go with it to make it pop sometimes.

Arent all colours?
And arent all colours also interesting?
Sure theres a hurdle riddled with culture clashes and sound badsies before you even start to know the difference between hues and tone without a wikiimage up in yor hud
But going into white or yed or bellow or rude or back or white
Should end up in 2018 with a better idea about choosing colours to paint because you like painting that way,

As in this is too vague and nudesless to be at all any good for a start painting top 3
Unless youre a ramenman in which case you have your nudes in your wardrobe or under your bed or stashed in a box or wherever

Like a browner anything might not only be for shoelaces
Or a whiter anything might not only be for highlight layers 2 from the top
Who knows though, i dont have the heart to support 3 teams so dont take it from me.
Painting tau and khorne for the next couple years.

Im sure we'll see more of you, op,
Your layers look like they might go somewhere, as in, take this, its dehydrating to walk off into the snow desert without some cow guts, as valourent as it is that the sun has just set and is about to start rising on your feasteed cheeks:

- paint with coloured water on primer for the first couple of coats
Like thinner than washes
And also thin your washes for longevity
Youll eventually knock over that 10 pound nuln oil
Also prevent +90% of pooling amount and incidences
And start to control shaded areas on every model
If you know maths

Dont have to start dark like oils
And sometimes nice dot to dots happen between layers
As in take your time with bronze/brass areas
Brown>leather>gold >silver
Or mix your golds with brown and leather
And the wetter or less saturated the paint,
Quicker the time to dry or demoisturise
And unawkwardly playfuller away from the dread the time spent meandering

I always primer white and work down
I have some khorne and tau in gallery
You can see some of the layer stuff in laisez merzerfuckyous

R8rtr8rs

*nudes = spacemarines
Wetwetwet = best friend is a wet pallet. Stare at that parchment paper like it knows what its telling you
Handsize = do you have more than 15 brushes
Dicksize = do you have fewer than 20 paints/dufug gw paintracks
Religion = the emprah made tanks for air compressors

Elbows is wetwetwetwetwet
Which reminds me that unfortunately it has to make sense that the wet paint needs to be coming off a dry brush...
