Hi Guys,

sorry if this isn't in the right place, but, would anyone have any idea how to replicate the red on the tank shown below?

would prefer to use Citadel paints as the are easily accessible for me but I can also get Vallejo

am working on an idea for my Imperial Guard army paint scheme....

Start with this for the basecoat(it might seem a bit off, but Mournfang when applied properly looks very accurate for where the red seems to be flaking a bit).

OR

For your layering needs.

A color that would be an actual, kind of fire truck red like that would look a bit cartoon-y on a Leman Russ or Guard vehicle. Adapting it to something a bit more 'real' would work far better.

that's what I was thinking, almost rusty but not quiet, I was thinking a heavy coat of earthsade over the top should bring it right down.

Thank you very much for your help, il give it a try this week and post the results

Love to see how it comes out.

That colour is probably trying to be "Red Oxide" primer. It would have been rare to see a tank in the field with that on the exterior though as they would be repainted dunkelgelb, olivgrun and rotbraun before seeing action.

But some companies make paints that are a match for Red Oxide, if you've already found something probably no need to bother looking in to it more though.

Ok so here she is, it's not an epic paint job but as I said, I'm happy with it and that's all that matters in my books

Would like to know what you think of the theme

I like it, nice and grubby as well, come out well, pat yourself on the back for that, job well done.

Only thing I can suggest is paint the ends of the smoke launchers back and perhaps a bit of blackening around the end of the cannon to look like soot, otherwise go let it get some blood on its tracks

Halford's Red Oxide primer might help speed things up a bit.
Here's some WIPs using it:
