Hello,

I recently got the Betrayal At Calth and Burning of Prospero kits. I intend to build a Word Bearers army using the models from the kits.
I am new to Warhammer 40k and the Horus Heresy franchise and require some assistance.

Can you please make me an Army list using the models from the 2 kits I received. (I have no 40k stuff that can be brought over).
Also, I haven't been able to get a straight, simple answer on what books I require to play the game.

Thanks,

Thomas

The cheapest route that will give you all of the rules you need is the core army list: https://www.forgeworld.co.uk/en-US/The-Horus-heresy-legiones-Astartes-Age-of-Darkness-Army-List

You also need the rulebook which gives you the unique rules for the Legion. Here you can turn to the other red book (https://www.forgeworld.co.uk/en-US/The-Horus-Heresy-Legiones-Astartes-Age-of-Darkness-Legions), which is cheaper and gives you the lowdown on all the other Legions. Or you can get Book V, which has the Word Bearer fluff/organization/rules, in addition to the same treatment for Ultramarines, the rules for Militia armies, and the Calth campaign setting.

Book VI has some stuff not available anywhere else, but nothing too relevant for Word Bearers unless you decide to run Shattered Legions or Blackshields. The only stand-out thing is the Delegatus is a nice cheap HQ to unlock Rites of War, but I think the generic delegatus rules are available from FW's site under Autilon Skorr.

Oh, and the third book is the Rulebook for the game! That is, the standard 7ed 40k rulebook. It's best to pick these up from eBay as people sell the mini ones that come with the 40k boxed games for very little.

To recap

- The Warhammer 40k Rulebook - for the rules to the game
- Legiones Astartes: Age of Darkness Army Lists - for the Legion army list and rules for all the units and weapons in it.
- Legiones Astartes: Age of Darkness Legions OR Horus Heresy Book V: Tempest - for the Word Bearers specific special rules and units.
