So question guys would this make a decent counts as heavy bolter for SM devestators?

The second one is much better for a heavy bolter. It looks a lot like the Horus Heresy version.

Yeah I highly doubt people would even notice the second was not GW. But that first one though..... i have a thing for miniguns.Really wish GW would just let devastator squads take assault cannons.

As the others said, the second one is accurate - first is not.

Given as far as I know there's nothing described as "minigun like" that the Devastators can take, and the description/use of the heavy bolter is a machine gun, frankly, I'd have no problem with somebody using the first as a heavy bolter and calling it WYSIWYG. I'd think it was kinda cool in fact.

True by fluff the first could be a different design path that never went anywhere as the second proved more reliable or easier to maintain etc.

Second is a very good fit for the 30k model minus drum magazine.

The problem I have with number one is that it already looks like an existing weapon tha ISNT a heavy bolter.

Since it seems primarus might end up getting access to old rotorcannons you may be able to run your mini guns sooner or later.

but in all honesty id play ether or as counts as heavy bolters

since devs cant get any other bullet heavy weapons anyway.

I'm gonna go with the second option.

yeah and if for any reason i'm playing 30k im using them as rotocannons or whatever they're called. .... so do we have any timeframe for the return of actual gatling guns to the bog standard marine in 40k?

I wouldn't count on a man portable autocannon for the Imperial marines. It's one of the things that separates the CSM from the regular Astartes. Older tech and such.

On that note, never take rotorcannons on your HH Astartes. It's a trap upgrade. Great on Solar Auxilla, though

Nah I wouldn't be too surprised, they've been blurring that line for ages by making the heresy era stuff progressively more advanced while not doing so for the csm making the change in tech seem sort of paradoxical now.

First one definitely looks more like an assault cannon, but I'd allow it. I think you'd have to be a real gakker not to allow that in a game. I actually just ordered an alternate turret for my Razorback, see attached.
I figure I can use it as an assault cannon or heavy bolter and can't see anyone minding either way (as long as I specified which before the game, obv). I think if you had Heavy Bolters and were pretending it was a Lascannon or something it might be pushing it, but saying one machine gun is a different kind of machine gun? Nah, you're good imo.

Looks like an assault cannon but it should be okay.
