Nice work, and always nice to see a cohesive, well-painted army. I don't ever really like Night Lords, but you've toned them down a lot and they look really cool.

The dreads look really nice from what I can make out. And the bases look really nice (but perhaps a bit out of place in the context)
The rest is what I come to expect from a HH army -rather flat paintjobs covered in dust/mud effect, presented with somewhat crummy photos.

The overall look is pretty decent though, and fit the gritty HH style.

Wow, thats an interesting take on constructive criticism...

Out of place in context? Night Lords never fought on mountainous crags? Take it youve not read Pharos.

And i think youve let your personal prejudice against Heresy taint your views there. Theres only a very small amount of weathering powder on these models around the feet. And theres full edge highlighting, freehand lightning, and full chip weathering done by hand on every single marine. Ill grant you the crummy photos, but thats an iPhone and Instagram for you. Not to mention taken quickly at an event under strip lighting.

Until i have access to a better quality camera, heres my Praetor and one of my tactical support marines closer and in better light.

You mistake subtle for flat. And we can all make assumptions and have prejudice Most 40k armies are garish manga-fest childrens toys to my eye. But id not use that as an excuse to be cruel to a new poster. Wow.

Great stuff ... just like the first to reply I like the cohesiveness. I only paint 5-10 models of each Legion and I admire everyone who does a whole army without getting bored!

You're models are proper smelly Collister...

Seriously though, having seen shots in better lighting, these Night Lords are glorious to behold.

(It's me, Toastie, by the way!).

Excellent! I will hopefully have some Death Company, Vanguard Vets and Sanguinary Guard done by the time you get around to doing any Orks!

(Maybe even a Sterm Rehven full of Assault Termies too).

Models look great, granted photos are not the best , but the quality is there to see, and just because feyric doesn't like the muddy / battleworn look it is not a reason to be critical, plus I thought it was meant to be constructive criticism not just cheap shots.

Personally I like the brighter night lords, but appreciate the work.

For mother Soviet scotland oh and I like orcs

Sorry, I realise my comment came out a bit harsh and personal. Im usually polite when commenting on other peoples work (throwing stones in a glass house and all that..)
The pics are obviously from a game/event and not showcasing, and Im glad you seem to realise my comment was more about HH in general (or rather how rare it is to see a crisp HH force that actually do a good job at showing of those special and expencive models).
The new additional pics look very nice, as you say, subtle rather than flat. Your details and craftsmanship is noted and appreciated.
I already said I liked the overall look of your army, and the vehicles are really nice done.

Really fantastic basing and weathering! Great work all around.

As for the previous comment about them looking "flat," I also used to go for a realistic style with subtle highlighting as you've done here. I've found that it does tend to lead to the models looking flat when viewed from afar, and minis are almost always viewed from afar. I think if you brightened up the edge highlighting a bit and used pure black to line the crevices between the armor plates you'd get even better results than your already excellent work.

Also, I need to reiterate just how great that basing is. It's perfect.
