Hey guys, I've started painting Mortarion. While I started with the base colours on his armour, I wanted to get the wings done. So I worked in a gradient using a spray can of Corax White similarly to an airbrush (as I don't have an airbrush). After a bunch of different glazes of different bruised colours I think they're really starting to come up nicely. I'll be highlighting them next. I thought I'd post up here as I'm thinking of updating it each day with my progress as this dude is such an epic beast, and I may turn it into a Death Guard blog in general when I've finished and get onto the rest of the army.

Anyway, any comments, tips and/or advice welcome cheers guys

My first thought seeing the pics was "that's some nice airbrush work." My second thought after reading your blurb was "holy fork that's some incredible rattle can blending!" The glazes turned out great and I personally think the Heresy era scheme is the best way to go- it's such a crisp scheme and the white is a great contrast to the purpleish greens.

The only advice I can give is keep it up and build more nurgle to show us.

Ah thanks man
It didn't end up as hard as I expected as the wings are such a large surface area and fairly out of the way of the rest of the model so I was able to focus the spray near the ends. Just took some careful placement of the can so it didn't go on thickly.

I totally agree about the Heresy scheme. Feels weird to see him in other colours and you're totally right about the contrasts it makes with the wings.

I haven't had much of a chance to paint more of him yet but I'll hopefully be getting back into it today
