An unknown location in the Warp

Ahoy and a fine day to all the good citizens of Dakka!

As the milestone of 10 years of brush-wielding draws near I have decided I have reached a level of painting ability fit to finally pursue what has been a dream of mine for a long time...
Opening my own Miniature and Terrain commission painting studio to enable those with less time or painting experience on their hands to be able to field beautiful, detailed miniatures and terrain both on the tabletop and the display cabinet.

Here included are a selection of my favourite miniatures of mine, some of my own collection and some of previous commissions. I hope you enjoy them and if you are interested in commissioning a project, please contact me on Dakka or on my website which can be found in my signature! I would be very happy to work with you to create the vision you have.

Without further ado, please enjoy the following pieces and let me know what you think of them!

The minis look good, but I think you might want to work on your photography in order to better show off your painting.

Anyway, good luck!

Howdy friend! Thank you for your response! Could you recommend what you reckon could be improved with the photos?

Also, some more finished projects!

Sadly I'm not much of a photographer myself. I'm sure there's been some threads on the topic on Dakka, maybe in the tutorials section?

Personally I don't like to take photos against a white background because it makes minis look darker and flatter, so maybe you could try a darker backdrop and see if you like it or not. That's about all I got.

Hmm indeed something I have considered myself.. I will peruse alternative and darker backgrounds, it does give a very particular effect.
Thank you very much for your help, my friend!

Thank you kindly! I thought to experiment around with futuristic swamplands in a simple manner could be fun! Ties in with my main army as well!

Not too shabby! I do agree that there are a few issues with the photos but they get better when you click to open them!

The latest minis look really nice! A clear improvement in quality (I assume that some of the minis you prioritised speed over result for the benefit of the customer?) I'd definitely prioritise these latest miniatures in showing off what you can do

I noticed you have a very specific gritty style that suits chaos perfectly. When applied to IG for example it's making more of a statement that "these are gritty not so well off soldiers". Be careful with your style possibly clashing with the background of some miniatures. For example a high elf painted with this style would look out of place.

Although your high elf looks fine! He just has a bit of an odd position with his spear poking in a direction that he's not looking in

Anyway, good work! Good luck with the comissions. It's definitely awesome to be paid for a hobby!

Hey Squerkie! Thank you so much for your valuable feedback! It really means a lot to me. Could you elaborate on the picture quality issues? I would like to clean that up.

I definitely enjoy the gritty, grimy style of painting as I mainly have painted Chaos dudes and Orks in the past as my main projects and the style suits them well. I am learning a lot about cleaner styles of painting at the moment.

Thank you for your well-wishes, I too wish ye all the best in life and hobby!!

Greetings r3n3g8b0y, the Chaos Cultists & the Possessed Space Marines look fantastic. The extra bits and details really make them look special. The paint work is neat.

I like the one Chaos Cultists that looks like a Steel Legion Defector.

Ahoy fine Dakka-Denizens!

Back once again with another bunch of recently finished models! This time a client brought around some Gloomhaven miniatures to be painted.. he wanted them done to a Lvl. 1 standard with simple bases to match the boardgame's art. So here they be, a truly fun change to 40K-scale models!

Happy hobbying!

Ahoy and a fine day to ye all, good people of the Dakka!

Today we got a nice and intricate set of models: Celestine and her retinue from 40K!
A request of this commission was to keep the models in a more cool, platinum kind of vibe and the models to be amongst ruined terrain of an ancient Basilica...

I hope you enjoy these and if you would like to commission a project please just message me on Dakka or on my website in the footer!

Happy Hobbying!

The models look good, but the white background is not doing them any favours. Would you consider taking new photos in front of a darker background?

Thank you gentlemen, that is very kind!

As to the background, I have tinkered with different gradients, but grey works alright for most things.. would ye suggest even darker or a new shade altogether?

I'm not a particularly good photographer, I just think that in this case a fairly dark colour (including the surface they are standing on so no white at all) would probably work better. It probably doesn't need to be grey, though grey tends to be a safe bet.

Ahoy once more, fine human and xenos of Dakka!

Today I bring you a double treat! An Ultramarine primaris Sergeant by the name of Space Chad and a group of winter-hardened Eternal Guards, patrolling the outskirts of Athel Loren...

Enjoy and please leave any comments, feedback and ideas.

Like others have said, you need to ditch that awful pure white backdrop. You should get a gradient paper, tri pod backdrop setup, a photo editing software(I currently use CyberLink Photo Director 9) to clean up your images. I still use my old and reliable Nikon 550 digital camera. I use photography tape(its like a non sticky duct tape) or painter's tape or artist tape to hold down the front end of your backdrop.

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/331728-REG/Interfit_COR755_Background_Support_System.html

As far as photographing goes: you can setup your models with terrain to tell a story, though I would avoid that if it was a commission to show the miniatures clearly.
Spoiler:

Painting critique: mostly solid job, mold lines cleaned=check, gun barrels drilled=check, nice looking basing=check; only thing that stand out I see that you can work on is the eyes, they still have that bulgy crazy look. What you want to do is encircle the eyes with a thin dark/black line. I paint the skin tones, dot the eye sockets black, dot the socket white/off white leaving a thin edge of black, dot the iris black/blue/green, clean up the skin tone around the eyes.

Thank you for the nudge on the light box setup, it is something I have certainly pondered before and I think I shall try the gray cloth as a backdrop, a sound plan!

A super cool T'au meets Imperium scene also, it tells a fine story. I shall look into the creation of scenes... such as this one here I our team did a while back set in the Fallout universe... enjoy!

Who would have thought there could be a grand total of 767 Spirit Stones on but 8 models!?

A fine Ulthwe force was completed in the Mekforges recently and is now awaiting shipment back to their Craftworld.. 'twas also a nice test for the new lightbox - with a dark backdrop as was suggested in the thread - and how tricky photographing white/black contrasts on a black background can indeed be... More tinkering with the settings is to be done in future pict-capt series, but for now Enjoy!
