Hey all.

I started playing 40k back just before the Necron 5ed codex, back when Necrons were still controlled by the C'tan and were mindless machine horror movie monsters.
I liked the changes to the fluff as they gave more depth but I have to say it took away some of the horror feel of the Necrons that I enjoyed so much.

With the new kill team coming I thought I'd convert some Necron Warriors to better demonstrate how they were in the fluff back before 5ed.

This is my first try, it's very rough and not final but wanted to share and get some opinions/tips on what I could do to improve (and hopefully make the process faster). I based the warrior on the artwork shown and I used multiple warrior parts to bash into one build. I extended the shoulders, spine, made the arms a bit longer and repositioned the feet. I also elevated the chest slightly.

Thoughts/improvements/ways to not make this process take 5 hours?

Thanks!

EDIT: Sorry for the picture orientation, not sure how to turn them the right way up

Looks very threatening, you've done a good job capturing the pose of the Necron in the artwork there!

Really nice, much better than the standart warrior.
For the "way to not have 5h/model" ; if you just lower the head of the regular warrior, what's the result?

Great motivation and great outcome!

I'm inspired to assemble a full unit of left over warriors like this. Extending arms is perhaps the most tricky part.

I'm guessing from looking at details that you're not accustomed to working with greenstuff. The back of the knees would be better with GS. I recently converted warriors to flayed ones and had the exact same challenge, posing them more hunched over, cutting joints and realigning them, filling open gaps. Greenstuff is good for that purpose and easy to produce good looking results with simple tools. (Links to my gallery in my profile)

Thanks everyone! I honestly wasn't expecting such a positive response, I tend to be pretty critical of what I make.

petitflacheur - sadly the spine at the back is then way too short and the shoulders look oddly small. Plus it misses the long apeish arms. Honestly I just wish there was an easier way of extending the limbs and so on but I guess I'll get faster with practice.

torblind - thanks man! I have absolutely no experience with greenstuff, all I did was cut out relevant parts from other warriors, modify the plastic a bit, cut a few joints and then be very patient with the sticking. I wish I could greenstuff better, would have made this a lot easier.

I was kind of inspired by Blanchitsu style models/painting and tried making something that looks more horror than the quite subdued looking necron warriors we have now.

I like it. I always loved that drawing and thought that's how Warriors should have looked. Good to see an adaptation of this. I might try this myself one day.

Nehekhara lives! Sort of!

It is really good. I also miss the old necrons. Particular the spooky wraights.

Haha thanks guys! Though I don't think I expressed myself well enough: I'm looking for feedback on making him look closer to the art. He's not done yet!

What part took 5 ouers? Some necron lists run 40 warriors.

Niiai - well you need two sets of arms and backs, the shoulders need to be built up, the spine needs to be extended and bigger spikes added, arms and legs need to be cut in a few different places, repositioned and extended and it's all super fiddly. It was not a pleasant experience
