Hi,

Hello to all as this is my first real post.

I stumbled across a thread somewhere asking about fluff re the Space Wolf colour of armour, Way back when the likes of Space Hulk and The 40k Compendium (life changing) was released following the seminal Rouge Trader 40k, The SW armour was dark grey. About the same time the Space Marine paint set was released with a guide to painting, Blood Angels, Salamanders, Ulras? and Space Wolves.

As the thread I was reading was closed I wanted to comment. Why did the wolves go from dark grey to baby blue? My theory is the answer lays with this new Paint Set and mini guide, It was my first ever purchase along with just released, Grey Knight terminators (way way to hard for me!!)

Anyways, does any one know the actual fluff, more importantly the Kim Sykes recipe?? I really dont like the all blue current colour.

I miserably failed painting Blood Angels, so stuck to Crimson Fists, White Scars (quickest way to put together a entry on a saturday morning, Halfords white primer and a red brush stroke down the middle!) The Wolves didn't get me until much later. It was issue 185 of White Dwarf. A guy called Kim Sykes had painted a army of SW and I thought they looked incredible. I was smitten. So I asked this guy at Croydon GW, how do you get the wolves to look like that? He knew! Stupidly I have since forgotten the formula! So wondering if someone tell me if this is right? Whats has happened to Kim? Was this staff member actually him?

So I think it is blue grey/shadow or whatever base, Then whilst still wet put a bit of Marine Dark Blue, on your pallet and a dab of black. Then make the lot into a shade consistency of milk, cover the base coat. Let it dry.

Then balance the remainder of that with the much lighter SW blue, like powder blue, and layer up to pure SW blue and even just white.

See pics, you get this almost purple fade to light light blue, Kim Sykes totally nailed it and I think I was getting results ok. No way as good as Kims, but I was happy. But time has made me forget the formula!

Please look at the pics and tell me the secret to Purpley Dark blue faded to White blue grey!? Also keen to hear fluff stories on the 50 shades of Space Wolves!

Thanks,

S[/color]

That honestly just looks like the old Space Wolf Grey, it was a blueish light gray.
