Hello everyone, the name is Wonkee and I am a younger gamer living in the middle of Nebraska!

A little about me before we kick this off:
I have been wargaming for around 13 years now starting around the age of 10, and got more into it with the "Battle for Maccrage" 4th Ed starter set. The hobby aspects of the game are what really drew me in, as the only people in my Alaskan hometown playing at that time were friends I could drag to my house for game nights. Around the age of 14 I started becoming obsessed with Roleplaying games. It was hard for me to get any kind of gaming in due to lack of players on the small island town, and was mostly restricted to weekly RPG nights. Slowly the idea of playing Miniature War games faded from memory, though I have always collected and painted GW models for use with RPG's. Upon reaching adulthood (5 years ago or so), I moved to Colorado and found a FLGS who mainly played WM/H and Malifaux, so I was reintroduced to gaming at that point in time, and have not really stopped since. My passion for Warmachine/Hordes died pretty quickly with the start of MK3, but I still dabble in Malifaux. I recently moved to the middle of Nebraska working as a full time Illustrator, mainly within the "OSR" side of the RPG industry. On a whim, I decided to snag a "Shadowspear" box and quickly fell back in love with the quality of GW products. I really want to experiment with actually playing both 40k and AOS, and remembered how much time I used to spend here on Dakka during my childhood. There isn't much of a local meta, but these games are what makes me happy. So here we are!

What to expect on this blog:
Mostly painting WIP's and completed miniatures from various product lines, with the occasional gaming related Illustration thrown in. Perhaps some terrain, batreps, and other gaming related stuff!

What is currently on my roster: (In no particular order)
1.) Completing the Shadowspear set in the themes of Blood Angels for the Primaris and either Death-guard, Word bearers, or Flawless host for the Chaos. From there I will teach myself the rules, and build a 6x4 modular gaming table.
2.) I have about 1500+ points of Tyranid troop choices that I have collected secondhand over the years in various states of disrepair. Complete refurbishing will be necessary.
3.) Various Malifaux and RPG miniature Odds/Ends.
4.) After I learn 40k, I will probably pick up AOS as well. I am currently thinking Beasts of Chaos & Gloomspite.
5.) I also have an unopened box of Tau pathfinders. Who knows what will happen there.
6.) Hand Crafting a 4x6 table of 12x12 wood-burned dungeon geomorph tiles to be used in RPG's as well as Zone Mortalis style games.
(Other things will undoubtedly be added to this list as I check them off)

Alright! I think thats settled! Here is for my first update!
--------------
I have been extremely busy trying to level up my miniature painting skills! I've spent around 2 weeks between other projects on this unit of 10 "Blood Angels" infiltrator Space Marines. I've always been decent at airbrush speed painting, but because of this I have never been able to progress very far past "Table Top Standard Quality". Painting nearly a thousand miniatures and never seeing much progress really took a lot of my motivation away from the hobby. So I decided to try my darnedest and really see what I could do when I push myself.

For this Shadowspear project I made a very clear set of rules for myself.
1.) They will be 100% brush painted. No airbrushing allowed.

2.) Red has always been hard for me, so I picked a classic "Blood Angels" paint scheme. I decided to go with their old school style with lots of contrast, going all the way up to orange. Not the modern metallic red.

3.) Limited palette, I chose 16 colors to work with for the Blood Angels, and the rest were custom mixed between these few.

4.) Attempt to "Freehand" artwork on the shoulder pads. This is something I've always been terrified to do.

5.) Try to achieve better skintones, and actually paint the eyes. This is also something I've always skipped.

I think all together I am really happy with them, even though it took forever and a half to get done. I'm proud of all the achievements I've made during this learning project, and cant wait to tackle the next set!
More Blood Angels coming soon!

Thank you for reading this and supporting me! Comments & Critique are always super appreciated!

Love that red and black. Solid paintwork. Good luck on your goals! Looking forward to what's next. What sort of Malifaux stuff will we be seeing?

Thanks Youwashock! It means a bunch! I was pretty unsure of "What to do" on breaking up the solid red, but I think im pretty happy with the way the black worked out. I was originally going to do Blood Ravens, but am still undecided. If i do choose B-R it shouldn't be too hard to cover the shoulder pads afterwords. We will see As far as Malifaux goes, ive been collecting a ton of stuff! Expect to see Outcasts, Neverborn, Bayou, and maybe even some guild! Cheers!

They've got a nifty look and I am always impressed when people get eyes on these figures!

Building a table is ambitious and sounds like a lot of fun

Nice job on those blood angels, free hand blood drops are well done. Maybe push your free hand even further on the next model by adding wings to the drop for a full chapter symbol, looks like you have the skills for it

I’d say you succeeded on all your goals: the red, the palette, the freehand and the face all turned out great.

I love the idea of the injured helmetless sergeant. Very flavourful, and great use of yellow as the highlight to the red, really makes the red really bright!
