So I had to fix my chair to work from home during lockdown, and have been trying to turn the leftover bits into some sort of chemical refinery. Here are the bits to start with.

Pretty common use of cylindric bits, but they always look great in the end! Why not add straws to simulate pipes?

And this was it basecoated with a bit of Nuln Oil

Next bit was filling the pipes. I did the big one with water effect (I’ll put a pic of this later - it was a real failure!!). For the other I filled them with some bits of cardboard for bulk, and then melted the weird novelty candle my GF’s mum gave me to fill them with wax.

Side note - the weird candle was in the shape of a dragon, with a metal skeleton. Because I like Warhammer. Weird, but very sweet.

Anyone else think the wax looks like the slime from Ghostbusters 2?

Weird chemical colours basecoated on. I decided to leave one as the wax’s colour (with a bit of Water effect on it) as it looked alright.

And this is it pretty much done. Will add a tiny bit of detail after this point though eg some stones and then post final pics.

Wow, that was a super fast and interesting project. What’s your final verdict on the melted wax as sludge? Is it worth replicating the idea?

Yes, for sure, but it’s fiddly! You want to fill most of the vessel with something else (cardboard in my case) and then just use wax as the topper. And then you need quite a few coats to paint it. But the best bit is the drips look super cool.

Wow that was fast! And a great effect! I'll file away candle-wax for future ideas for sure.

Well I took the photos and meant to post them here over time, and forgot!! So don’t credit me with more pace than I deserve.

All done! Both my first ever thread on Dakka, and my lockdown scenery project!

Should I separately post it in the gallery, or is the idea that you only put things in one place?

Thinking about some sort of chaos temple to get me through the next few weeks, based loosely on the Temple of Doom. Will ponder.

Thanks so much! It’s amazing how as soon as you add the bits and pieces from your bits box it changes from “random pipes” to an actual model.

Cheers! It was fun. I’ll have a think whether to make my chaos temple now!

That makes me want to rip my wife's new work-from-home office chair apart to make terrain. I think she'd be pissed though, so I had better not!
