Hello, my crackle paint is drying up nicely
As you can see there are some big flakes on here. What’s the best way of prettiness them ffrom getting caught and flaking off?? Varnish? Will that make the paint shiny, I’m going for more of a red planet vibe.

PVC glue (white glue) watered down, dabbed onto the surface, spray matte varnish if too glossy. Also, I would check to see if your crackle paint is mixed well. The thick patches of the crackle paint in the center area should've cracked way bigger than that. I would suspect your crackle medium has separated and are concentrated on the top portion of the pot.

It hadn’t fully dried. It has now and looks fab. This is just GSW crackle paint straight out the pot.
Matt varnish then. I’ll look into that.
I didn’t use primer before, stupid, and the chips came off, obviously. They seem better attached now and a slightly better effect I think

No, you need to lock it in first with watered down PVC PVA (sorry) glue, and THEN matte varnish spray. If you have access to Armory brand primer where you live, I highly recommend it for bases - these primers come out LOT MORE grittier than any other primer brand I've used, and the gritty finish helps the crackle paint grab onto the surface so much better.

I’m not familiar with PVC. At the same time as putting it down to fix the crackle in place can I then add sand and stuff?

Do you mean white glue like Elmer's glue?
If it is then its PVA
