Refuge from the Fantasy Flight Games forums purge, now joining DakkaDakka. I mainly dabble in X-wing and Star Wars related stuff though not exclusively. My main area of expertise is scratch building though I do consider myself a decent painter as well.

First to be posted here is my latest project, two scratch built 'realistic' CT-900 StarScavengers, built to an approximate X-wing scale (1/270). It is a ship that only otherwise exists as a computer model in the show where it originated from (Lego Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures) or as a Lego model.

As it turns out, the commissioner of these two ships were actually one of the guys that produced and created the show in question so that was bloody awesome! Pretty much as close as official as you can get without the house of the mouse stamp of approval.

I figure I might show some of my previous work as well, not just the very recent stuff.

This I just call the Skink Firespray as the paint job was inspired by the very real Skilton's Skink lizard found on the west coast of North America. Last picture show the lizard in question.

Still older work but anyway, here's two AT-RT walkers that started their life as Wizard of the Coast models from their 2004 Star Wars game. The original models were awful with the sculpt rather lacking in details. More importantly the material used was a soft, almost rubbery, plastic. Let's count all the things I had to do to make them presentable:

Re-positioned the legs considerably so the models stands straighter and taller
Added some pistons to the legs
Added an antenna array
Moved the entire top pod forwards
Added footrests
Removed the original gun and mounting point
Replaced the gun mount with a new one with a magnet added
Scratch built / kitbashed all three gun options and of course magnetized them
Replaced the original pilot
Replacement pilot needed extensive work to legs, feet and arms in order to have the right position.

Those are great looking tentacles, and a nice new element for space ships. Never seen anything quite like it.

Many people who commission me to paint for them are perfectly happy with a simpler paint job, no need for all that fancy highlighting. The small size and scale of X-wing models make this highly feasible and a tidy paint job with proper shading is really all that is needed for a decent looking model. Case in point, here's one of my latest projects, a Scurrgh H-6 bomber. It isn't terribly fancy but it certainly gets the job done.

As a side note this is a companion to two other ships I painted last year and all three share the same colours and scheme so I suspect the idea is to have a themed squad.

Already two months since I last posted anything? What dark hole did the time disappear into? And no I don't need an answer for that.

Here's a collection of three scratch built Arquitens-class light cruiser I've built over the years. These beasts are about 50 cm long and when I built the first one, there was almost no solid info on the ship type. They also earn the distinction of being too large to fit in my photo setup so the pictures are of worse quality than usual.

Damn I've forgotten to update this thread pretty much the entire summer. Anyway, here is one of my older works, a G-1A Starfighter converted to look like similar to the iconic R-9A Arrowhead of R-Type fame. I even built a Force pod, though obviously it's only for show and has no in game effect.

The pod is completely scratch built, the ship is 'only' converted.

Another shoot'em up based ship, this time a Fang Fighter turned into Vic Viper from Gradius. A rather easy and straight forward conversion all things considered as the Fang Fighter have a surprisingly similar profile to Vic Viper.

Part three of the same project as the previous two ships. While it was never intended, the orange theme does coincide quite nicely with halloween and the month of spook.

And here is the fourth and final partr of the same commission as the previous three ships. It is also my first time painting a TIE Reaper and I was surprised by the size, though Admittedly most of the 'bulk' so to speak comes from the massive set of solar panels surrounding the main hull so the size is a bit deceptive.

Szarekh the Silent King may not be the largest nor the most detailed model I've ever painted, but it's probably the most complex in terms of design. It is also a ridiculously impractical model and I struggle to see how this could possibly be painted if not left as several sub assemblies. I myself had 29 parts lying around that needed to be painted separately. It took me almost three months but I persevered and it all came together quite nicely in the end.

As for the paint job, the commissioner (a good friend of mine) specifically wanted something highly similar to the official model, though overall darker. I sometimes wonder if he is a closet emo at heart. I also apologize for the lack of close up pictures but for some reason those came out really bloody grainy.

Amazing job!

Totally agree on sub assemblies these days. I think GW just has to bite the bullet and include recommended sub assemblies in the instructions.

These days if you follow their directions you'll get a gorgeous, intricate model, that is @#$%ing impossible to paint.
