Hi everyone.

I’ve been building a space marine army based around black and purple quartered armour, golden yellow iconography and deep violet red weapons.

The issue I’m really struggling to get past is the nature of the purple highlights - specifically whether they should be cooler (VGC alien purple) or warmer (genestealer purple).

I love how warmer (genestealer purple) highlights make the purple pop, BUT feel like this creates a clash with the warm (magenta) highlights of the deep red weapons (both are warm highlights).

When I try cooler highlights (VGC alien purple), whilst it creates a much better cold v warm highlight contrast with the weapons, it feels like the blueish highlight tones make the purple lose its pop (almost looking brownish).

Any advice, thoughts etc would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
LM

Its what I emediately thought of seeing your post.
(I personally made one of these as a victim for a Tyranid Toxicrene before)

Anyway, go for the warm highlights imho.

I imagine the warm purples are not looking nice beside the magentas because warm purples eventually turn magenta. So cool purples are probably contrasting a little more nicely. But it shouldn't be turning brown but rather an indigo color.

You could avoid color shift by picking a base colour you like and just mixing in more white. Or if you want more color shift then mix a blue or pink into the base to make your highlights.

A color wheel could help visualizing this.
