I mean the guy is head and shoulders above the new Terminators even. Is he supposed to be Abaddon sized?

My WHFB armies were Bretonians and Tomb Kings.

Hes definitely fluffed to be quite large for a human being when he was an unmodified human being.
I'm not the best opinion on this so pinch of salt and all that.

He is 11 Terran years old when he attempts the Dark Angel Astartes Selection ritual, yet is able to use a set of armour to hide his youth and enters the test as an adult without anyone realizing.
He beats everyone, and then does CQC with a fully enhanced Astartes Chaplain for 7 minuites.
He must be rather tall for a human if he can masquerade competitively as an adult in combat when he is 11 years old.
(11yo IRL are around 4'7")

Conversion to Astartes increases the applicants height but i get the feel that the only way an applicant can be formed into an astartes taller than a typical astartes is by being taller than an astartes before taking on the conversion.
Abaddon is stated to have a "massive build" that is part of his reputation on his home-world before becoming an Astartes.
Endryd Haar is freakishly tall for an astartes and thats ruminated to be because of a non-standard process of Astartes conversion..

Id put it down to scale creep rather than innate height advantage.

On an Astartes potential height? It depends, I guess.

Human height is of course linked to growth. Growth is triggered by hormones. And forgive me over simplifying, the hormone levels are largely genetic.

Yet literal giants such as Andre the Giant gain their stature due to mutation, where the body is flooded with growth hormones, or they’re just not switched off as they are in others.

Now we know the Astartes process involves hormone therapy dialled up. How that might override genetics though isn’t clear. I’d guess it’s possible for one to carry the gene which grew Andre the Giant, and it be dormant. But the Astartes conversion process sets it active, resulting in an Astartes of truly unusual size?

I initially thought so too - but you look at the new Terminator Librarian and Captain next to him, and they're the same size (more or less) as the new Terminators. Its what made me wonder if they already have or are going to start fluffing him as the Loyalist Abaddon The Giant.

GW is just really bad at sticking to a scale. The 'best' example might be the Black Templars Castellan, who is a freakish giant.

The one that is an homage to 3rd Edition art you mean? The one that is supposed to be strange cos it's inspired by John Blanche art?

I've never seen anybody make the claim that it's supposed to be a huge giant because Blanche before...

It's the same height as a regular Primaris mate. It's just wide, which is because of the art piece it's based on. Small head, huge shoulder pads.

Northumberland

I couldn't tell you which book it was, but in the Dark Angels omnibus with Belial fighting Orks on Piscina IV he's described in that as being huge compared to other marines.

Appears taller and wider than Gravis, and much bigger than Intercessor.

Literally put the model on my desk and compared it to an Intercessor and a Gravis lad.
It's not tall it's wide.

Which Belial were you comparing? Old? New? Leviathan generic captain people named Belial for a while?

He's got a scenic base, but even adding something under the Leviathan scaled Libby he's still taller.

Not Belial, the Templars character that is wide. Apologies for the confusion.

Then post a pic! Because I'm looking at a picture that makes it look like both taller and wider, as though you could downscale the model by 5-10% and it looks like it'd be more in line with the compared models.

But "wider" also means bigger.
