hi all,
working on a marine list and have about 300 points left.
i wanted to see what you all thought might be the best fit.

for what i want to run i am planning on two units of 10 heavy intercessors and two ballistus dreads.
this should come to about 680.

what should i do with the remaining 320?
i was thinking a brutalis dread and gravis captain or an assault aspect, something like jump intercessors or inceptors.

any thoughts?
thanks in advance.

(Full disclosure; I’m a fluffy player with not a lot of 10th under my belt)

That seems very static. Do you have plans for if you need to get to other parts of the table? Also very few units, so if one needs to not shoot for a turn, you loose a lot of firepower. No screens either.

hard to squeeze all of that in to 1000 points
i'm not competitive these are the units i like the look of but can be convinced to change.

for movement that why was thinking inceptors or jump intercessors for their deep strike.

I’m out of the loop for what the “efficient” units are, so didn’t want to give specific ones.

If I was building based on what I liked/what was thematic, I’d start with the jump intercessors myself. I’m an old school Ultramarine. I want something from every FOC slot to make a flexible TAC list. And your core is a very heavy/elite feeling firebase. I could also see going with inceptors if you wanted to lean hard into the gravis armor. But I like a little chop in my lists.

I generally like to have a unit that infiltrates in a list. They can start on midfield objectives, help screen in no man’s land, etc. They add mobility to your army, but it’s front loaded on deployment. Although some of them have redeploy tricks, like going back into reserves for scouts. These will give you board control. Take two MSU if you can find the points.

And you need someone to lead the force. Pros and cons to everyone, and you have all sorts of units to attach them to. I tend to take things like “who’s been painted recently but not hit the table yet” into consideration when building a list (which would suggest the Lt with combi-weapon right now) You big blocks of heavy intercessors take buffs well. Something like the apothecary biologis would be nice, or a captain. If you do go with the assault intercessors, I’ve always been a fan of captains leading from the front and getting messy in CC. Lot of personal preference in choosing a commander.

What hq are you running?

Gravis captain Is a good choice or biologis apothecary.

Jump pack intercessors are a good shout or terminators to deep strike

Nice uptonius
I was looking at aggressors too but i thought the lack of an assault element may hurt.

Aggressors should not be to shabby in CC. They bring the dakka, but also pack twin powerfists.

They don’t have the speed you often associate with assault elements, but can crush some skulls once they get there.

If it was me running the list I'd lose a heavy intercessors unit and take a second aggressors unit. Having only one of something makes it an obvious primary target as once they're gone you have no replacement

Just looking at the datasheets:

The dread is a little tougher, and more flexable vs. a wider range of tagets. So if there are no tanks to shoot, you have frags and fists to fall back on.

The tank looks like it should be a lot more reliable due to built in re-rolls. You get fewer shots, but a way to deal with those pesky 1’s. Also the main gun is just better. I suspect when the mathhammer comes out, it’s going to do the AV job a lot better.

Both of them look like they should be effective at their jobs. Which one is more efficient is another question.
