Just based off the Poor Hammer podcast thing recently, what would you include? Mine's not perfect, but probably would fit in a box, and cost, and give a useful army. Plus, you could quite easily buy two of them, and not feel like you wasted your money.

1x Infernal Master (they're just good, and are fun with Arcane Vortex or Teleport Crystal)
2x 10 Rubric Marines (you can make up plenty of army lists, between squad sizes, Warpflamers (yes), Bolters (no), Soul Reaper Cannons (where?).
1x Chaos Rhino (you *need* a transport with this list. We've got one that takes Rubrics. Happy days)
3x Tzaangor Enlightened (having a trash unit, that can also move or snipe or charge is nice. Rounds out the playing-the-objective game side of the patrol).

It's fairly high in $$ value, but that's only because Enlightened and Rhinos are so expensive for their pts value. It goes the other way, on pts value with the Rubrics and Infernal.

Still, you could block up, or MSU, or magic++ with what you've got. Or buy Ahriman or Magnus or a few Forgefiends or Mutaliths, depending on what you wanted. And you could happily buy two combat patrols without feeling cheated.

I'd love to throw a Muta or a Forgefiend in there, or an extra Sorcerer of some sort, but if you were just starting to collect this faction, that first Rhino is handy.

Anyway, what are your thoughts on an "actually good" Thousand Sons combat patrol?

Combat Patrol 4 (1000 points)

The "Someone said something something about a scaling campaign, or a 1000pt battle, but I've only bought a combat patrol so far, so I used all my Enlightened as Shamans and a few Rubrics as Sorcerers" one. It's not very good, but it's possibly better than pretending *anything can be a chaos spawn*. Maybe.
~14 cabal points with Scrolls, so no-one can say you weren't at least trying to do the faction thingy.

Move the enhancements around or change them if you'd like (I'd throw them all on actual TSon Sorcs/ IMs), but even in "scrabbling for points" mode, it has a bit of variation in Loadout and playstyles.

Should you want to do the easy thing, buy two of these theoretical combat patrols, Magnus, Ahriman, and a Forgefiend, it just so happens that it fits into the basic 2000pt list.
It's a good combat patrol, because it starts the addiction. It's a bad combat patrol, because even with a few extra purchases, you'll need more. Though you will get a fairly low b-teir'ish list out of it (compared to what TSons can actually do). Still, it's cheap and it works, which is a lot better than some lists. That's Magnus for you....

Spoiler:

2x Combat Patrol ex5: the revenge of the buyen'ning part 1 (2000 points)

Thousand Sons
Strike Force (2000 points)
Cult of Magic

1x Inferno bolt pistol
1x Psychic Stalk
Yes, I would like some more magic.

Infernal Master (105 points)
• 1x Force weapon
1x Inferno bolt pistol
1x Screamer Invocation
• Enhancement: Arcane Vortex
Big chonky flamer.

Infernal Master (110 points)
• 1x Force weapon
1x Inferno bolt pistol
1x Screamer Invocation
• Enhancement: Umbralefic Crystal
Teleport the dusties, straight up their <insert place here>

Magnus the Red (440 points)
• Warlord
• 1x Blade of Magnus
1x Gaze of Magnus
1x Tzeentch’s Firestorm
Did no wrong.

BATTLELINE

4x 10 Rubric Marines (210/820 points)
• 1x Aspiring Sorcerer
• 1x Force weapon
1x Plasma pistol
1x Warpsmite
• 9x Rubric Marine
• 9x Close combat weapon
1x Icon of Flame
1x Soulreaper cannon
8x Warpflamer
Just big bricks of dusty boys. If you knew what they did in these numbers, you'd be scared. 2x rhinos and one crystal for them too, alongside a decent bit of magic. Within 3" you say? Lol.
Turn 1, charge 1 command point. Turn two, do whatever you want. I've got Overwatch prepped and ready to go.

DEDICATED TRANSPORTS

2x Thousand Sons Rhino (75/150 points)
• 1x Armoured tracks
1x Havoc launcher
1x Inferno combi-bolter
1x Inferno combi-bolter
Gotta get your flamer blobs there somehow.

OTHER DATASHEETS

Thousand Sons Forgefiend (135 points)
• 3x Ectoplasma cannon
You now have multipurpose firepower!

2x3 Tzaangor Enlightened (45/90 points)
3x Fatecaster greatbow
Always good. The best S-tier trash unit there is for TSons.

------

So, yeah, you're not going to feel cheated by buying two combat patrols and a few extra somewhat costly centrepiece models. And you can sponge some extra Sorcs/ Shamans out if you need to. Or Forbidden Lore, squad sizes, make-up, or whatever, on the game size. This is just a really simple one, on showing this combat patrol doesn't kill sales, it just gets them started (especially compared to the Termie+ Tzaangor one). I mean, I'm doing a "counts as" TSons force, and I'd damn well buy this combat patrol. Even if someone kacks it all up, and glues bolters onto every Rubric, that's fine. We've got strategems and magic for that. All good!

((The first two Rhinos are good, if you're just starting out. But even if you have too many Rhinos already, the second set becomes "Now with a terrain piece!", or "Have you thought about converting stuff into Predator tanks?". They're BS good in CSM, but they're not bad in TSons either, where you can turn off armour saves. But Rhinos are amazing in this combat patrol, not only as transports, but also as movement blockers))

(((Note: for force variation and make-up, literally anything is, and can be, a Chaos Spawn. Small plastic figurine unrelated to wargaming? Chaos Spawn. Little bit from the middle of a toilet roll with the words Chaos Spawn written on it? Chaos Spawn. Really badly made figure by GW that's meant to be a Chaos Spawn? Chaos Spawn. And at 65pts per two, you've got filler in your list)))
