Just finished off a couple of commissions, and figured it might be nice to post some pics, since it's been a while since I posted anything new. These were based on the Mk1 and Mk2 Scorpion Attack Quads that I built for eBay a while back, with a few Space Wolfey bits and some battle damage added. The Mk1 is a slight change on the original design, using the Chaos Marine Bike as a framework instead of the Imperial version. Mk1: Mk2: Both have magnetised weapons, with both Heavy Bolter and Multimelta options, and the weapon mounts pivot and elevate. You can find more pictures . As always, comments and criticisms welcome...

great conversion, but it requires buying 4 bike kits to get all the mudguards? (or 2 sidecar kits?) A bit too expensive for my taste

Really nice conversions...
Mk1 seem much more "operative" that Mk2.... the fusion gun don?t seem to have a good field of fire from its position, neither the gunner has a good visibility position

Yup, 4 Marine bikes and a Chaos bike for the chassis. Edit: And of course an attack bike for the weapons and the rear seat on the Mk2... So really it's a Chaos Bike, 3 Marine bikes and an Attack Bike Mk1 seem much more "operative" that Mk2.... the fusion gun don?t seem to have a good field of fire from its position, neither the gunner has a good visibility position
Actually, they both have exactly the same fire arc, just on opposite sides. The MK2 has a slightly better arc than a regular attack bike. And the gunner has a targetting screen

Well, the Mk1 main weapon seems to have a better field of fire because it looks like it is higher... nice detail the targetting screen

Can this be done with the regular Space Marine bike chassis? What are the problems with doing that?

The original Mk1 used a regular marine bike chassis. The main problem with it is that you have to cut the front mudguard off, buld a set of front forks, and then attach the front mudguards to the new forks. Getting the front wheels lined up doing them this way is a nightmare. Using the Chaos bike, you can leave the front forks on there and just run an axle through for the mudguards to attach to.

Damned nice work, regardless of the cost (that's the real beauty of conversions....originality...you're not building solely for play!
I might look into this, 'cos the Imp Guard conversion of the Landspeeder for Cities of Death (see June WD issue) got me thinking...and by co-in-see-dance, I have a Chaos Bike I picked up in an Flea-bay auction...now I know what I'll do with it!
But let's talk gameplay....d'ye think it can be played similar to a 'speeder (the MK2), though with the terrain restrictions added? Or as a bike?

I had built these as attack bike proxies, which is why they have the same weapons configuration as an attack bike. I would think they still look a little too much like bikes to be an acceptable speeder proxy. This, however, could probably work just as well as either an attack bike or as a speeder (with the removal of the bolters, obviously)...

that's based on the Landspeeder chassis plus some spare wheels? well, at least it's cheaper than 5 bike kits

Nice work! Any chance you could explain how you built the rear-ward passenger and that whole section. I'd like to modify this a little, using a single wheel in the front, but have the changeable weapon set-up like in your rear-section. Keep up the great work.

Nope. I've seen various versions of the landspeeder conversion, but wanted something a little less chunky, more dunebuggy-esque. This is built from two attack bike seats on a plasticard frame. Any chance you could explain how you built the rear-ward passenger and that whole section.
It's basically just the seat from the attack bike, with the gunners legs removed at the knees. Trim the seat base down so that it is narrow enough to slide in the back of the bike, and run a sheet of plasticard underneath to hold it in place. Then you just build an axle from plastic rod. A couple of different thicknesses of rod on the axle create a differential, and a second rod running from the middle of the diff up into the middle of the bike serves as a drive shaft. The gunner's controls are the normal gunner's arms, with a bike control panel sitting on top, and a shaft underneath connecting it to the back of the bike.

Awesome work. I always love to see your conversions here.
I'll have to try it myself someday.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |
