Yeah, that's not really good news, as it means they're close to dust, but far larger than GW.

Shame though, they are really nice figures.

Far larger than GW? Nahhhhh about .5mm taller if you based them on the same GW base

Far larger than a Kay-Dihun...yes but honestly, almost nothing compares to that. when it comes to more realistic proportions.

Nice looking troops, and the scale is Mass Market Miniatures Game friendly. I don't actually have a need for these guys, but I'm sure I can come up with one.

Kay-Dihun, huh that would be a funny name to actually have in a game as an inside joke or parody

It's okay. I ran out of cash at the time, but I'm sure we can coordinate some way with Mark for your troopers to be sent to me instead.

It actually seems like Mark just googled some pics and had some fun with a (blog and forum) post. It's not quite a point of sale item for retail.

Personally, as I don't play GW games and therefore am not thinking of proxying them as something else, and don't currently know where I would play, I don't actually have a USE for these guys, but I sure have a NEED for them!

They are not 28mm, even GW pushes that size to its limits and these are bigger. Humans should be smaller than space marines, not the same size or bigger. Cadians are oversized as is and these are taller than Cadians.

Beautiful minis, but too tall.

Nah, marines too short. Space Marines in 28mm should be like 35mm in height

Spoiler:

But being larger than 28mm would make it difficult to be in cover designed for 28mm models

They are space marines! They shouldn't need cover, they wear it!

The Orks are the pinnacle of creation. For them, the great struggle is won. They have evolved a society which knows no stress or angst. Who are we to judge them? We Eldar who have failed, or the Humans, on the road to ruin in their turn? And why? Because we sought answers to questions that an Ork wouldn't even bother to ask! We see a culture that is strong and despise it as crude.

Oh good grief guys.... The Kadi-Hun in that picture is 26mm to the eyes...They shortened the IG to make the SM look taller. The SM in the pic is 29mm to the eyes and my trooper in the shot with the IG is 28.5 to the eyes. If you can pick out a .5mm difference when figures are on the table, you have far better eyes than mine.

Love the breaking news post . I know a FLGS that would just love to stock these, let me know when to give them the heads up that they can order them from a distributor (I'm guessing late February)

Any FLGS that would like to stock these may go here: http://dreamforge-games.blogspot.com/p/stockists-and-retailers.html

As WGF will be my primary US distributor, I am having them collect the information and set the terms. They offer generous terms so there should be no surprises for the FLGS from what they are used to seeing. using the contact link in the page will drop them directly to the WGF retailer page and put them in contact with Daisy at WGF.

I went by the store today and can't believe I forgot to mention this! I will point them to it though, thanks

Also, cadbren, as kenshin says stock marines are simply too short for what they represent. Hence the whole "truescale" movement to make taller marines... not shorter humans

Close, but just to be accurate, I measured a cadian using the bottom of sole to eye measurement. He is almost exactly 28mm to the eye. By comparison, the eisenkern looks to be two mm taller, and could probably be labeled 30mm. The different helmet style means that when on the same style base, you're looking at about a 3mm difference in overall height. This will be too much for alot of folks, and clearly these figs aren't going to mix well in the same unit. However, they will look fine on the tabletop together in opposing armies, and those wishing to GW-ify their Eisenkern should find that they look just fine with GW weapons.

Also, note that the plastic cadians are taller than the old metal cadians, and the plastic cadian kit is a number of years old. It is pretty likely that when a new plastic GW IG force comes out they will be even bigger as that's the way the sci-fi miniatures world seems to be heading.

As wonky as GW scale is, who cares if they are a little large? Remember the rule of cool...and these are much cooler than anything GW has out right now.

So a person who is 6 foot is 6 foot to the eye?
Stupid way to measure something.
Height is sole to top of head. Yeah that gets ignored these days and has led to scale creep.
Plastic Cadians are about 30-33mm in scale, marines are about 32-35mm.
The metal Cadians were smaller models and more appropriate for humans, that is the scale they should go back to.
Marines have more sets and more buyers. It makes sense to change the relatively few human lines by making them smaller than altering the marines.

A .5mm difference is negligible to the eye, that is why marines and guard look silly next to each other.
Sometimes things that are small have to be bigger to see them I understand. A hobbit/halfling would be the size of a 15mm figure if scaled correctly and also be hard to see.
Guard should be smaller because marines are the standard in 40k. Xenos don't matter as they're aliens, they can be any height and most seem to be taller and bigger than humans anyway.

The problem that I find is when hats get in the way.

When I was measuring the Dystopian Legions models that's what I really started noticing. The Prussians are about 38-40 mm tall, while the FSA infantry are 35 mm. The reason is because the Prussians wear helmets that sit high on their heads and are not meant to be a close fit because they're supposed to provide protection.
On the other hand, the FSA are just wearing cloth caps snug around their head, which are not nearly as tall.

On the same vein, the FSA character is around 40 mm tall because he is wearing a big top hat.

It's difficult to measure to the top of the head, because it can be difficult to determine what the top of the head is. If you start measuring to the top of a hat, then you will have some models representing 6 feet, other models being 5 feet, but somehow it would entirely be dependent on the size of their hat.

It's really not a stupid way.

Wargames miniatures have been measured "to the eye" for a long time. This is because, as Roadkizzle points out most military miniatures have some kinds of headgear and such headgear varries widely in height.

To the eye measurement makes it much easier to know how well a given miniature will look with your current army. This is especially important when folks mix ranges within an army, (very common in historical gaming) and makes it easier to reliably purchase compatible figures online or by mail.

Height in wargames miniatures is to the eye and it's not the reason for scale creep. Scale creep occurs when certain game companies up-size their figures to make them seem more impressive, or to make their miniatures compatible only with their own miniatures. See the GW transition from metal to plastic 99-04 for the clearest example of this.

Sum up, short of a pictorial or in-person comparison, accurate to-the-eye measurements are by far the most reliable way of judging the height and compatibility of various miniatures.
